Thanksgiving was originally in celebration of bountiful harvests and religion. Have a great and enjoyable Thanksgiving with friends and family! Look to commonality of views and not political nor partisan views. Family is important, continue or build upon that.
Yet, this time of year we all get blasted by commercials about helping others. Easy to ignore for sure. But what we do not recognize is that the need is great, greater than we ever imagined. So many of those we see everyday are in the shadows and yet do not cry out for help.
My wife works for an 'affluent' school district in Washington. The free and reduced lunch cost program covers over 50% of the students. We pay, personally, many of those behind or can not afford the costs of their lunches, in many cases the only meal the kids have.
Many of us are very fortunate, yet complain about it (me included). For a family that is homeless, or stretching beyond belief to find a meal to help them exist one more day, choosing between food for their kids, and maybe themselves, or a roof over their heads is not one I would want to make. But they do it everyday...
Is money the answer? No, but it helps helps. Volunteering at kitchens, collection sites, nursing homes, hospitals, providing donations and sponsoring those that help the less fortunate, can be way more impactful. It costs one nothing, except time. My wife's GM volunteered for decades at a local children's hospital in her lifetime. She opened my eyes what is needed... I thank her for that - may she RIP.
Have a happy holiday. Hopefully you can make someone else's even happier.
