Alternatives Sought

Life of the Party
As we're packing for the big move east, it hit me that I have lot of reels of various makes and styles I need to pack. I've already got 2 reel cases full but those darn things are expensive.
Anyone know of a useful, viable, inexpensive alternative to pack and store multiple reels at once other than bubble wrap and a cardboard box ?

Thanks guys.
Should have beeen clearer. I'm looking at 30+ reels that I've accumulated over the years in addition to the 16 already bagged and sitting in storage.

Buying cases that can hold various fly reels plus conventionals up to 50W, spinning to include oceanic sizes, and baitcasters in both round and "basstard" style up to the larger Abu Garcias and Avets is gonna get expensive. Especially since most of it will sit in a storage locker for a year while we finish the renovations at the property. That's why I asked for alternatives.

(We'll be roughly halfway between Vagabond and Canuck from Kansas when done)

Rich, are you packing & shipping or packing and hauling them yourself? If you’re shipping them and you do not have the original boxes they came with go with @DimeBrite rec of foam, packed in sturdy cardboard boxes, taped securely and marked on four sides “Diapers/Bathroom”. Think Churchill and Russia.
“It’s a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma…” because when you arrive the first two days are exactly that. Where the hell is…….?? Use the same size boxes also, and NOT the largest.

I'm also currently going through a similar move-from-hell. I had a bunch of 1.7 cu ft flip top plastic totes (Uline S-25644) that got repurposed. Cheap(-ish) and a bit more sturdy than a cardboard box. Wrap fragile stuff with newsprint. They're way better for books than cardboard!

If you are also moving large household appliances, consider packing the appropriately-padded reels inside said appliances (possibly use blankets/clothes/towels/etc.).

Again, Thanks All. Yeah, move from Hell is an apt description.
U-Haul has a service we ddnt now about that Kay found. We're going to pack all items not needed immediatley into PODS style containers and store them. We will have only keys. Everything we'll need to live in the rental unil the house is complete, will be shipped to the door.

@Vagabond ; I've already got about 6 rod and reel setups for local streams stored at the garage on the property, and i dont expect to be using any of my conventional or surf gear for at least a year. (watch for pm regarding that, i need pointers).

What i'm going to do is similar to what @ptychocheilus mentioned. I found several new, empty, lock top plastic containers collecting dust in the garage (a massive undertaking in it's own right). I have an "in" with Uline via association with my old employer. So am going to grab a box of 12x15 bubble bags and use those, as well as the padded fill paper we grabbed for the china and glassware. Most of the orignial boxes are long gone, this should work.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and helpful hints. I needed an economical solution, and combining a few things helps. My hair didnt get as thin as i thought i would over this, and the bank account isn't several hundred dollars lower, so this is a win.

My parents used the Pod system to move from Vermont out here (following their grandkids). It worked well for them.

Thanks for the idea. But, no, all appliances will convey with the sale of the home. In the past 18 months we've replaced the washer, dryer, fridge and dishwasher. Not because we wanted to but because we had no choice. 2 weeks ago, we replaced the furnace, and half the fencing (HOA spec). The roof was replaced in 21 with a good 30 year product. Again beause we had to. So whomever buys this place is getting a good set of appliances and quite a lot more. While not wealthy, we decided it was best to start with all new once we've completed the reno in Penna.

We used Pods as well in the move from North Carolina to the Poconos. Wish it had been available in the move from Bend, for some reason, Pods does not service Bend or central Oregon. Would never use a trad moving company again.

Good luck with your move Rich!!
