I repaired half of the blown down privacy fence in my back yard and figured since I'd been a good boy, I was allowed to go out and play. (By the way, those Stimpson EZ mender fence post brackets sure beat having to dig holes and set new posts.
)
Anyway, I decided to visit a little 'put & take' lake that's within my day trip radius. According to WDFW it had been planted with a bunch of decent sized fish in November so I thought I'd try to find out if any were left.
I got a bit of a late start but was still on the water just after 9. It was pretty much flat calm and I almost had the lake to myself.

As seems to be the norm for me lately, it took me a bit to find some willing fish, but I connected with this solid fellow after what seemed like an hour.

It wasn't one of the two pounders that had been planted...unless it went on a diet after Christmas...but it was still a strong fish with plenty of energy.
Next, I hooked and promptly lost what felt like a decent sized bass and then things got quiet so I watched an eagle harass some ducks and perused the local lawn art.

After that, I moved to the north end where I'd done 'okay' on my only other trip to this lake. I netted a couple little guys before I proceeded to lose any fishing mojo I might have possessed. I couldn't hold on to the two solid takes I was lucky enough to get and evidently didn't bring enough money to buy another bite.
Well
.
So like any self-respecting fisher, I worked my way through my excuse list, changed streamers waaay more often than was necessary, tied some impressive knots in my leader, blamed everything else I could think of, and generally futzed my way through the next couple hours before finally calling it around 3.
Like any other trip I suppose, I'd had big hopes for the day...but that was All She Wrote.
