Just wrapped our 2026 AK trip. The same program as the last few years. Camping at Brooks for a few days with the bears and then a week at Kulik Lodge. The bears were the bears. Always cool to see them and enjoy an encounter or two. The fishing was solid as well. What I love about AK, even fishing out of the same lodge during the same week, is that the rivers fish different year to year and sometimes day to day while here. From the weather, the timing of sockeye, etc.. It’s always a new adventure.
I’ve done this report a few years in a row, so I’ll keep the verbiage short. All in, another great trip.
Fishing wise, the Kulik River was more spotty than previous years but I ended up finding some solid rainbows. Also caught some lakers casting flies at the mouth of feeder creeks on Kulik Lake.
Rainbows

Lakers.

I also had the opportunity to fish the Kamishak River for Dolly Varden as well as chum and pink salmon. The chums were thick…in size and concentration. Weather delayed us a bit so only fished a 1/2 day but lost count of the number of nice chum landed. Those fish definitely pull harder than the fish we catch in estuaries in WA. I also had the opportunity to fish the lower American, as well as the upper Moraine and a short section of Funnel Creek too.
Chum

Dollies

Artic Char

One cool encounter was with a lynx on the river. First one I’ve seen

Until next year!
