Given the news that a popular NE side lake was closed for camping this year I’d decided to hit BC for my spring trip instead, then their mind was changed…My retired buddies were off there for a week but I was thinking nah, not worth it as I’d booked my leave from work. Intel was it was cold but a 3 hr rise one day to the hatch.
One of them had noted only 2 of our crew were there when a few yrs ago we were 7…I really miss the craic of the camp and only 2 being there seemed a bit shite. On the Wed I realised my Friday was clear and so I decided to hit the lake for a couple of days and enjoy the lake, the fishing, and of course my friends.
I got the hall pass from my better half and 2 days at camp is easy to set up. I left town at 450 am Friday and by 1030 was there. I didn’t have my pram but dug out my watermaster and was on the loch by 1130.
The lake was even more down to a daft low level and chironmidding was crap esp. as my anchors were with my boat. I managed one and ended up back at camp. Like last yr around 1.30 there were risers, a lot of them and a good hatch was tight off by the camp shore. Fish were willing and we all got fish on dries. I got a few more later from the boat at the camp fence line. After dinner, an Adams off the bank go me a camp fish.
It was really cold that night. Needing ice was not an issue this trip. Mid fishing was still crap but got a couple. The hatch came off and I got some beauties. It is fun being spun around by fish, the best was an easy 20” fish and a few others were close. The weather was daft as expected, hail, then sun, then a raging gale from the north, and then no wind. I was way downwind for the gale but bank sat and had a gar and a beer for it to blow over, then an easy row back.
Glad I blew the $$$ on gas. The camp was great, food stellar, and the friendship that draws me there. I do worry for the future as the lake was soooo far down, the south end is 2’ from being a swamp. The packing day it blew a gale and the best way to leave as there was no real chance of fishing .
