A new (to me) type of bamboo construction - Carlin Rectangular Tip Quad

One of these is listed for sale on the Classic Rod Forum and it is a rod design I've never seen before. Chris Carlin is an amazing rod maker so I'd expect his description on his website (see below) is very accurate. Has anyone seen or cast one of these, or even heard of it before? Are the pieces connected by a taped splice? Cool stuff...

Interesting concept.
I for one had never heard of it. It would be fun to cast and compare it.

There are rod makers scattered around the globe experimenting with all sorts of polygons but I don't recall seeing one that progresses from one shape to another. Seeing all these ideas develop is like watching an evolutionary tree grow. I think its all a sign of health in the rod making community.

Not really sure just how “new” this rectangular concept is.....but here’s an old Pinterest picture I found while checking out quads for Frankenquad.....

The really unique concept of the this Carlin rod is the cross section changes from square to rectangular, and actually flattens out more toward the tip. I can't even imagine how the strips get planed.
