I recently received my new 3wt rod and have been itching to give it a workout. All the nearby C&R lakes are getting too warm to fish and usually hold fish a bit big for a 3wt. Got a late start this morning and I didn’t really have time to head up into the mountains, so I figured I would go over to one of the nearby P&T/recreational lakes and beat up on some stockers. Got there around 11:00 am hoping I would be early enough to get some fishing in before the massive kayak/SUP hatch occurs. (It is the start of the weekend after all) The rod was amazing, casting a floating line with ease and even would throw my full sink farther than I expected once I got the rhythm down. The fish were holding in the 7-10 foot range, so I spent most of the time with the sinker. The Yellowstone cutties were extremely cooperative and for the first couple hours I was hooking up every 5-10 minutes. They were all cookie cutter fish in the 10-12” range and fought like crazy, perfect for the 3wt. The bite slowed down around 1:00 and the parking area was getting busy with folks unpacking all their toys, so I headed back to the launch area, picking up a few just kicking back in. Nice short, successful trip and a great christening of the new rod. I have to admit also, the scenery at the “beach area” as I packed up, wasn’t to shabby either.
They pretty much all look the same!

Pretty little lake with beautiful weather.
