A little bit of fishing in CO

Did a short end of summer workcation from Sunriver last week. Got the family some pool time, and did a little fishing. On Tuesday, worked east coast hours and then dragged the family out to "Tall Bird Meadow" lake for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Pretty good fishing, picked up a half dozen or so with a couple nice fish. But my daughter had the fish of the day - after hooking up with a damsel nymph a couple minutes into fishing, she snapped it off (we are going to work on knot tying and fighting big fish soon), she hooked another fish a couple of minutes later. It immediately started jumping, and shoot, it was huge. I fish this lake a fair bit, and the really big fish have been missing for me since 2020. But this one had to be in the 24-25" range. It was pretty entertaining watching her fight this huge fish on an Echo Gecko. After about a minute, it did another couple jumps and bent the hook out on the last one. I picked up a 20" bow a couple minutes later - my daughter's fishing was much bigger.

Fish picture (not the 20").

Got up early on Thursday to sneak in a couple hours before work, and decide to try a spot I've fished a couple of times. Only got one grab in 2 hours of fishing, but it was a fat 22.5" brownie.

Got probably 5 hours of fishing in 4 days, but it was fun!

Those are some very nice trout. I bet they were a hoot.

I was confused for a bit waiting for the report from the Fryingpan or Elevenmile Canyon or Gunnison…

Good report - will be hitting Tall Bird Meadow lake in a few weeks myself. Thanks for sharing.
I've been there three times this year, fishing the best it's been for me since 2020. Well, as long as there is some chop on the water. When it's been calm it's been tough. Good luck!
