A handy little item you probably know about already

My wife is a quilter. She's got about a half a gazillion spools of thread, whereas I have a gazillion spools of thread, wire, tinsel, etc. like you do. She looked at my tying table and thread storage and exhaled through her nose. Next thing I know, I've got a present of what are called "peels". They're little silicone wrappy things that wrap around the spool holding the thread/wire/tinsel in place, instead of having tag ends all over the place. Hers were bought in a quilt shop for about a buck a piece. Turns out a major online retailer has them at a signifcantly reduced rate, like at the link below. I find 'em wonderful. And no, I'm not selling 'em.

You can search for them as "thread peels" or "spool huggers"

This is probably old news to most of you, but for me it's an epiphany. If I spelled that right.

Clear plastic versions were available through flyfishing material outlets. You can make your own with large plastic tubing you cut to size and then slice lengthwise so it will fit around your spool.
