A belated birthday

To our country, not me. I'm a little behind on reports since I'm not sitting at a computer a ton.

We had the pleasure of house sitting in one of my favorite places of the state with some friends of ours for the 4th (the whole week). Some fishing was done, some barbeque-ing, some swimming, and thank god, no fireworks (did I mention I'm a curmudgeon that hates fireworks?).

I got to fish a few times and caught some nice fish (this is definitely one of those rivers where you don't need to catch fish to have a good time).

I got this guy.

On this fly.

Inches from the bank in this little micro eddy. This is one of those spots where it pays to know the river well. It's a super small spot (maybe 4-5' long) and it's just upstream of a more well known hole that people tend to focus on. I was having trouble getting the redsides to eat my spinner at ~7am and before I headed to a different spot, I threw on ant knowing there is ALWAYS a fish in this eddy and sure enough it ate second cast. Bingo.

Another pretty fish caught later in the day.

I attempted to do some in town creekin' before the family woke up, but I wasn't tough enough for the temps. The water was just way to cold at 6am. While I stuck it out, my feet were frozen and I didn't get into anything. The temps kept me from coming back in the morning.

On the 4th, there was a really fun airshow at the local airport. The kids had a blast (and so did we).

One (well two ;) ) more good fish for good measure. This was a double bull trout my buddy landed. The smaller one ate his tag nymph and while fighting it the bigger one ate his point fly. Some how he landed both while a third (bigger one) was nipping at their tails.

Those Oury or Cury grips forget what they’re called are money for big hands! That is one rewarding dry fly eat for that little pool dang.

Awesome report with the last shot an incredible one to have
