Another Visit to Big Twin in Winthrop Monday early. Camp set up in the water at 10:30. Had a feeling that wind was coming, got into some nice fish and by 1:00 it was over for me in a tube. Sat around camp all damb day hoping it would stop, NOPE.
BBQ had a hard time staying lit in that wind, but food was made. Took a drive, lights out by 9:00.
Day 2, nice morning fish rising, coffee needed. Back out around 10:30, fish rising nothing biting for anyone ? Worked my way down the lake and in 2 hrs that wind was back from the South and it was strong. Hit 2 fish before being blown on shore like a hunk of drift wood. NOT feeling happy I went back to camp and did some thinking. Grabbed the map and took off for Camble lake.
Found it, fished it and some how left my Lampson reel on the ground I think ? Seen a snake on the road, some Mount bikers said they seen 2 as well. Stopped at Davis for a look seeing how this was my lake for Wednesday. Looked great and a ton of rising fish.
Day 3, Up at 07:30, coffee on, tore down camp and loaded car by 08:30. A blue bird day and calm was the forecast. I was outa there by 09:30 and at Davis by 10:00. Fish all over, and cruzing the shore line. Unloaded car, parked, gear on back to lake to find NO reel. I was ???? Loaded back up and Hauled @$$ back to Camble, no reel to be found. I had that for many years.
No sense on crying about it, my mistake not putting it back in the pocket of tube after I took off my rod. Musta set it down and when I picked up the tube to put in car it fell off ?
Always bring more than 1 reel/rod.
OK, Davis. I stated out with a Olive wooly, my favorite. I was catching some good hard fighting fish. Stayed on launch side incase that wind came. Looking down off shore in about
10-15 ft of water is was like an ant nest but full of fish zipping about back and forth looking for food and eating ?
Could it be ? I've found the croni hole I've heard about. Off came that woolly and on with a blood worm. Took about 1 minute and bobber down and down and down. I was having a blast, finally. Watching those fish made it even better and that lake has a verity of sized fish.
The wind came for a shot time and F'd up my fun so back on with the woolly and trolled back to the launch for a break and piss.
Watching fish cruze by I thought WTH, hucked the woolly out and WAM fish on and on.
Had 2 hrs before I had to Jam so out I went with a olive white bead head croni. I had fish on about every cast. It was unreal to me how these croni's work, I'm HOOKED.
Before I new it, it was after 5:00 I had to leave. Hit the Old School House brewery, watched a Bluegrass band warm up and off I went. Home by 9:00.
Without a doubt my best day of fly fishing. Fish ran 11-14" that I hooked and fought very hard and were big jumpers. Nothing like the fish I've found before.
