3/4 of the Slam on Day One

After almost five months off the water here in SW Montana, the itch got me going today. Finally had a day with decent temps to get motivated. Cranked up the Western Theme music playlist and made it over to the Yellowstone. 48 degrees in Paradise Valley around 10AM and it made it to 60 by 1 PM. Fished a honey hole with a black and sparkly red pine squirrel bugger to connect with a brown, cutt and several whitefish. Don't know where the rainbows were. Fished a new rod (new to me) with some success--T&T No Sanctuary II - 9'-5 weight. These are super-fast rods, cast like rockets but it was a bit under powered with the 150-grain sink tip. I'll move up to 200 gr next trip. Had the same experience with the T&T NS-II 6 weight. 200 gr was a bit underpowering. Lesson learned. Good trip to start the season off.

Solo canoe with a kayak paddle! My choice also. Very efficient. Beats the hell out of a j-stroke.
