2026 goals- Fishy edition

In a perfect world a list would go something like...
  • Catch an adult tarpon from shore
  • Catch an Anak permit
  • Catch a Giant African Threadfin
  • Catch a Blue Bastard
  • Catch a Talang Queenfish
  • Catch a nice Barramundi
  • Catch a Tuskfish
  • Catch a huge Golden Trevally
You never know.
You going to Sette Cama and the Wessels this year? Both look incredible.

1.Explore NE Oregon/SE Washington and Idaho. My fishing buddy moved to CDA, ID so my goal is to figure out the water between there and Portland.
2. Spend more time in a boat. Recently bought a watermaster so I’m motivated to float as many stretches as possible. Also would love to figure out how to fish stillwater. That’s a game I’ve mostly ignored until now.
3. Get off the beaten path. I tore my ACL last ski season and it’s felt like a long recovery. I’m looking forward to doing some backpacking with the 3wt as well as some daytrips into some cascade lakes. Should be good for the knee and will feel better for my soul than continuing to grind in the weight room.

Lots of things to look forward to this year!

As an older guy (72) and retiring at the end of June, my goal is to get better at flyfishing for trout. Leaving to fish for a day with two kids at home and a business to run was a non starter for the last 41 years. My aim is to to walk/wade streams in the western US with my 5wt and 3wt, and enjoy each day I'm able to be outdoors in nature.
Seems my wife would like me to to maintain my work schedule and not be home 24hrs a day LOL.

Try to catch sea run Dollies off the beach with my daughter.
Just fish for anything, with gratefulness.
Finally build my “pandemic project” 10’ 5wt. double hander, before my vision gets worse.
Declutter my fish room.

Fish for smallmouth In Wisconsin with Brad Bohen; Here’s the backstory: Sometime prior to 2012 I would check The Drake online occasionally and met Brad when he came out to California to visit his father and bought an older Landcruiser to drive back to Wisconsin and flip. I kept an RV on the Trinity from October to April in those days that was on a couple great runs. We fished the lower Sacramento as well as the Trinity over several days and had a great time. In those days Brad was cutting his bones as a Musky guide as well as fly tyer. He remarked that while most of his guiding was for Musky his favorite fishing was top water smallmouth bass, low pressure, numbers and strong fighters. I recently reconnected with him and decided to pull the trigger: 3 full days chasing bronze on one or three of top smallmouth rivers in Wisconsin. Can’t wait.
