Yeah overdue starting a new thread. Not much news other than i have dug up all our begonia bulb and put in the greenhouse . Raked swept the balance of leaves . Favas and biennial broccoli from Sept planting about 30” tall. Temps very very mild . Lowest temp here so far since winter began is about 38-40 degrees. Garlic is taller than usual for January. Narcissus , and other bulbs on there way. Have made a soil amendment list. Will get it in the ground/ raised beds in the next month- 50 lbs cottonseed meal, 25lbs kelp meal, 12 lbs bonemeal , some worm castings(12. Lg bags) maybe ght grab 30 lbs of alfafa pellets. Happy gardening!

Hey Capt. I am so sorry for your loss. The loss of a mother leaves a hole, mine passed a few years ago. I have some wind chimes gun behind the house, by bedroom, the wind reminds me of her and I talk to her when I hear her chiming.

I will pray for you and your family.
Mom and I talked a lot about her transition. She wanted to be sure I was okay. I assured her I was doing fine. My brother had a lot more difficult time than I. My sadness emerged about 3 weeks after her passing when I started going through a jillion photos going back to the early 1930’s, trying to identify them. A big research project . Then I wrote about 75 cards to penpals family far awy a coiple friends she has known since grade school and 99 and 102 years old themselves. I did feel the sprinklers wanted to turn on… doing fine but thank you all for your kind sentiment.

Front yard in Seattle, twelve years ago. The buyers said they truly loved the yard. It only took them a month to rip it all out. Left and right yard views…View attachment 174747View attachment 174750
Found out similarly with my home I was forced to sell after a divorce during the mid to later 2000’s financial crash. Sad… yeah , it took 30 years and a wonderful greenhouse I built… I know of such a loss

Since it is still 2025.
Garlic is doing well so far with some growing on the side of the house and two smaller 4x4 beds at the end of the Fava beans.

LMK how the garlic growing goes! I'm on year 3. Plants sprout and grow great all winter/spring but I continue to get very small bulbs when I go to harvest. Prob 10% actually produce cloves that would be comparable to what you get a store. Any tips would be appreciated.

I had to look up what OCA is. Never heard of it before. I hope it tastes better than it looks!
Artichokes look like giant thistles but are very tasty. Jerusalem artichokes look like lumpy weird arse small potates are tasty t
Oo. Oca tasty like water chestnuts and mild tiny potatoes … tossing ground wait a year dig atChristmas . Sort plant a bunch eat the rest

Went out on this beautiful forty something degree day . I counted 67 broad Winsor Fava bean plants6-10” tall. They will nuke up the quality of the soil this winter and i will pick hundreds of shelled tasty beans in mid to late May!

Traditionally I dig up all the oca at xmas time which is when I planted it one year ago . I think I will give it a month more or so. Give tubers to enlarge. Also it is seed picking time as in unfold and pick tomato and pepper seed from the paper tower bundles I labeled and wrapped… stowed in the greenhouse. I use smallplastic beading containers and refresh my seed supplyIMG_8448.jpeg

Just got my new Territorial Seed catalog. Making a list and checking it twice.
I’m still harvesting carrots from my beds..
I overseeded micro clover into my parking strip this Fall and have to say it’s thriving. It’s an experiment with hope to use on my pitiful lawn..I hate f—ing lawns..
Have not owned lawnmowers or used one in 8 years. I do not miss the noise. But miss the mulched up bagged grass for my compost piles. I use the neighbors. But first I interogated him to determine if he ever contaminated the grass with chemicals.

Question on growing garlic, I never in the past put straw or hay over the top of them when planting in late fall, with it being a warmer late fall early winter they are spouting pretty well, in the spring time to you remove the straw/hay? Or just leave it be
