1st time Surf Perch .

My wife and I are camping on Long Beach Peninsula. We're here for a few days, thought I'd giver a try. Fished by the north jetty. Worked my way from about 200yds. away towards the jetty. Didn't catch any fish, but had fun, looking forward to trying again.
Used my 10' 7wt. with a obs wf8 INT.5.7.
Only issue I had was that I forgot my shooting basket.
Definitely would have made it more enjoyable.
Looking forward to trying again.

It's fun just getting out….. been there a couple of times where I forgot something. If you had baseball cap and I have done this a handful of times. Fold the bill over under your wading belt or pant belt and use the head piece as a mini basket. Not as good but works to some degree.

As you can see, I love surfperch. Look for structure at low tide then fish it as it fills up and has some waves going through it. If the beach has lots of mole crabs, that can be even more important than good structure.
