    What Are You Eating?

I’ve been on a sushi bender lately. I found this video and it might be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. I must deploy this tomorrow.

Back packing water filters (advice needed)

Grayl gives you the cleanest water, short of a reverse osmosis system. I’m somewhat paranoid about this sort of thing, so I want the best.

Fish Species That Defy the Fly

I was just thinking about this last night! In my opinion, flies (and lures) are only effective for fish that either don’t smell their food or can be tricked into a quick reaction that doesn’t give them time to do so. Australian garfish are basically impossible to catch on flies (or lures)...

    High Lakes

Do you pack raft users let your hiking boots get wet when launching, or do you go barefoot or something? Taking spare footwear is 2/3 of a float tube setup!

    High Lakes

Would a small drogue help? Is there any light weight anchor thing that could work?

    High Lakes

At my fitness level I think any hike will feel like a really long hike. That’s why I’m thinking a pack raft might be the way to go. It also gives me different type of watercraft than what I already have.

    High Lakes

I’m finally going to get off my butt and do the high lake thing this summer. I currently only have a regular Fish Cat. For my first trip, I plan to just go somewhere I can take that, fully inflated and with my waders on the whole way. If anyone is feeling generous, please PM me any short hikes...

    SFR Losing Interest

My kids are young, so fishing with them isn’t really viable yet. I’m hoping my oldest can snag some panfish off Zak’s dock some time this summer though. I appreciate the wisdom in these replies. I never thought I’d get bored fishing locally, because where I grew up was basically a desert and...

How do you know what depth you’re fishing at?

    SFR Losing Interest

I’m not as keen on fishing as I used to be. Not sure what to think about it. I took my dad on a week long trip during November. The fishing was great, but 2 days into the trip I missed my kids. That was a bummer for the rest of the trip. I think I might be done with fishing trips. I realized I...

Euro nymphers ruining lake fishing now too? 😛

    Indicator fishing / Stillwater

I stop at 18ft and switch to a 6ips line. Casting a level leader longer than that sucks the fun out of it for me.

    Indicator fishing / Stillwater

I like the simplicity and precision of a slip bobber setup; once I set the depth, I know what I’m getting. In comparison, counting down sinking lines feels random.

    Sunglasses

I just get my sunglasses from places like Zenni. They’re cheap and work fine. Main thing is to get fairly flat styles, like wayfarers or aviators. Anything that wraps around more will cause distortion.

    New boat project?

Saw this on Reddit this morning. Pretty cool.

    Large fish in New Zealand

NZ rivers tend to be relatively infertile, low fish density, little fishing pressure, not super high gradient, have abundant terrestrial life, etc. It’s the perfect storm for having one large fish in every stretch of water that is eager to take a cicada. There’s plenty of small fish. They have...

    Seattle/Bellevue Clubs

Thinking about joining a club, so I have more folks to go fishing with. My only experience with fishing clubs is the one I attended back in Australia, where I was the only person under 60. Do any of the clubs around Seattle/Bellevue have a slightly younger base?

NFR AI - How It Will Affect Jobs In The Next 5 years

Don’t even need robots. Just need a flood of people thinking blue collar jobs are safe, causing over supply and falling wages. It’s already started. Anyone that thinks their life won’t be significantly affected by AI is in for a shock.

    Western Water, or lack thereof

40% believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old. 26% believe the sun orbits the earth. Without another enlightenment period, there’s really no hope of our species being able to address anything of magnitude.
