    High Lakes

The crocs mentioned below sound good. I used an old pair of water shoes for kayakers. The crocs are probably lighter.

    High Lakes

Don't hike in your waders. Ask me how I know. I've spent the past 25 years fishing high lakes from an original Curtis Raft (about 24oz) as well as an ancient U-boat (can't recall the name of the company, but it was made somewhere in Oregon). The u-boat, stripped down by removing both backrest...

FS - backpacking and hiking gear for fishing mountain lakes

Kent, my days of hikes to high lakes are pretty much over, also. I resigned the TB's in 2016 because I couldn't do the tough hikes anymore. I go, occasionally, to super easy lakes, but that's it. I have family just north of Missoula and I'm over there all the time. In fact, I'll be over in a...

FS 'Lakes of Washington' 2 Volume Set

I have those books. They were the bible for the old Trailblazers.

    New black ugly stick!

A longtime friend of mine, rodbuilder Robert Kope, once used a piece of bamboo from his yard (or a neighbor's yard) and built a fly rod that he said casted almost as good as his finished bamboo rods.

    High End Coolers vs. E-Coolers

Thanks for your advice. I'm not yet completely sold on the high tech, although I'm leaning in that direction. Maybe I'll play around with some of the options you and others have mentioned. I appreciate it.

    Pinching Myself - Again

I really love that kind of music. We'll see if I can do this. As I mentioned I'm a caregiver to my wife and it can be difficult getting away.

    Pinching Myself - Again

Thanks, I'll let you know if I can go. Mind if I bring my wife? It's dependent on how she's feeling, but it sounds like fun.

    Pinching Myself - Again

Wow, what an awesome beginning. Like Humphrey Bogart said to Claude Rains at the end of Casablanca, "this could be the start of a beautiful friendship". I need to get out there myself. Cool for you!

    Pinching Myself - Again

Very cool! Glad you were able to snag it. Any jams going on at G-lake, or is it getting too chilly?

    Pinching Myself - Again

That's sweet, Dave. I had no idea there were so many reels being made in England during those decades. I've resisted the reel collection bug for a long, long time, but it appears my goose is cooked.

    Pinching Myself - Again

A couple of weeks ago I bumbled into a rod for sale that I've been searching for forever; A Goodwin Granger Favorite, from Para Adams. At the same time I bought his lovely 4wt Leonard, another rod I've wanted for a long time. As if that wasn't enough, I was able to purchase my very first vintage...

    High End Coolers vs. E-Coolers

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your advice on this topic. Since I retired I am able to spend more time on trips and typically spend a week at a time in the boonies. I'm leaning towards one of these powered fridges, probably with a smaller freezer portion. Most of my trips involve upland...

    High End Coolers vs. E-Coolers

Thanks Rob. So, if you're camped for one week in 90 degree weather, how long would you expect this cooler to keep ice from melting away?

    High End Coolers vs. E-Coolers

Hello, I'm in the market for a cooler for a new camper I'm having built. Up until now I've simply used the cheap Coleman types of coolers for camping, but I've grown tired of having to drive to a store every 2-3 days to empty out the melted ice water and associated scum and buy new ice. I've...
