    Furthest Travel to Fish

Farthest specifically to fish = Alaska Farthest fishing = Ireland (work trip to Germany, stopped in Ireland for a long weekend on the way back to the US and squeezed half a day of fishing in amongst the sightseeing)

    Show me your bass

Annual trip to Minnesota and Ontario - for some reason, it seemed like the fish were smaller than normal this year, both on the river I fished in MN and the lakes in Ontario... in the lakes, I think the big ones (19-20+) were just hanging out deeper, but that's not very possible on the river so...

AIS inspection sites between Seattle and Butte

I have been at a Montana AIS station when they saw a vehicle going by without stopping, and the inspectors immediately called law enforcement (I'm assuming State Patrol or whatever Montana's equivalent is). I was being inspected so I don't know if the truck got pulled over, but I know they were...

AIS inspection sites between Seattle and Butte

I've never seen the types of AIS inspection ststions along major roads in the Midwest like there are in western states. However, inspectors often set up at boat landings on popular lakes and perform full checks. I spend this week in MN and Ontario each year, and got checked at a landing on...

AIS inspection sites between Seattle and Butte

I believe Anaconda MT is westbound only. I know I've stopped there several times on the way back from the Bighorn but not on the way there.

    SFR Sears, Roebuck and Co

Sears was still going pretty strong when I got out of college and bought my first house in the early 2000s, at least in the Upper Midwest. The house needed a ton of work, so I got to be a very good customer of the tool and appliance departments of the local Sears store. The paper mill that my...

    Hunting pictures

Restocked some fly tying supplies last weekend, a neat day of hunting with both of us getting mature Toms.

    A trip to Tiger country

A fairly common technique for Wisconsin conventional musky fishermen in the late fall is using live suckers as bait on special rigs. The suckers aren't minnows, they're adult fish, in the 15-20+ inch range. I've seen them in bait shops and it's crazy to see adult fish where there would...

SFR The Real ID Requirements Are Just Around The Corner

I went and did everything required to get the Enhanced DL last Friday. It didn't take more than about 10 minutes and whatever the cost was, it was low enough that I didn't worry about it. I travel a lot for work, and always use my passport for flying (just out of habit) but don't want to risk...

    12ga pump shopping

This^^^^^^ The 870 has been around forever. I've had a couple and never have any problems, other than one being stolen! Whether you buy new or used, there is a high % chance you'll be happy with it. If you think there is any chance you'll ever want to turkey hunt (it's super fun!), try to...

    Spring turkey

Spring turkey hunting is a ton of fun, you won't regret giving it a try. The first time one gobbles close to you and starts answering your calls as it comes closer will have you hooked. Plus, if there are open waters around, a morning of turkey hunting and afternoon flyfishing makes a great...

THE DRAKE magazine - any subscribers, thoughts???

I used to buy an issue if The Drake when I'd see it in a fly shop, and subscribed for a year or two, but as others mentioned, I eventually got tired of the content. The change to "bait fishermen" price for all of us didn't help.too, $10 is a lot for mostly great photos and maybe one article...

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

This isn't PNW skiing, but had to be in Atlanta this week for work, and my layover would be in SLC anyway, so might as well make the layover become a few days and hit Snowbird and Snowbasin, right? Skied Sunday and Tuesday morning before heading to the airport Tuesday afternoon.

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Plenty of fresh snow at Tamarack in Idaho today, and not crowded at all. And some fish in Eastern Oregon yesterday...

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Skied Brundage today. It was a cold start to the day, -17 driving through New Meadows but +5 when I got to the mountain. Conditions were... meh. Like pretty much everywhere else in the region, it's been a long time since any new snow. On the positive side, the mountain was pretty empty...

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Silver Mountain was pretty good yesterday, at least the higher elevation areas. I made the mistake of skiing all the way down to the bottom of Chair 4 once, and it was pretty icy/crusty. I didn't hike Wardener, but took the traverse to some nice powder, which was fun.

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Wow, that's terrible. I've certainly felt uncomfortable on some chairlifts with slippery seats and chairs that weren't well balanced, but can't say that the ones at Bluewood have ever felt that way?

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Enjoy! I was there today, pretty good conditions at the top of the mountain but there has definitely been too much warm weather for ideal conditions. I tried to make today into a ski + fishing combo, but the rivers jumped way up on flow and got dirty., so the fishing gear stayed in the truck.

    NFR Snow Shred Season 2024 - 2025

Bluewood is awesome, especially the tree skiing that you mentioned. I might head there tomorrow. One of the most fun days of skiing that I've had was at Bluewood in two years ago. My parents were visiting on their way from winter in AZ back home to Minnesota, and I took advantage of the $0...
