Water moccasin…I was trying to catch up, I only had my phone and it was heading north at a good speed! It was about 21/2 feet long.

No sir, you are a true hunter! Your attention to detail on weather, elk behavior, the terrain and your memory are truly outstanding. This is TRUE hunting, not taking bench rest and shooting a magnum rifle across a canyon! That would be “shooting” and not “hunting”. I’m loving your narratives...

Well done. Your post brought up a section of my life. I had a similar experience with my lifetime long best friend though our focus was duck hunting. Like yours, the photographs project joy, happiness and excitement. His passing at age 49 in 1998 from lupus, is sadness but wrapped up in a...

Another beautiful sunset.

Zimbabwe, caught tilapia. Botswana, caught small tiger fish. Guides sucked on both episodes.

When I worked for the USFWS in Georgia, I assisted a law enforcement officer in a plain clothes setup for illegal clapper rail hunting. The only guy we busted was a county commissioner who pleaded for us not to publicly publish his arrest for hunting/shooting rails while under power. Yeah, right.

A different view in the spring with lawn and Lab. I miss both of them.

Front yard in Seattle, twelve years ago. The buyers said they truly loved the yard. It only took them a month to rip it all out. Left and right yard views…

Very sorry to hear of your struggles. I went through similar pattern 40 years ago, decided my genetics coupled with my father’s death at age 54 from alcohol helped me decide to quit. I heard it the other day, “Alcoholism is a self diagnosis issue.” I also found that my recovery led to discovery...

Most excellent! Congratulations!

I’ve always been a Labrador fan. Grits has gone a number of years now. She loved floating the South Fork of the Snake River and rivers in Montana. The guides loved having her, too.

From the NW or in general? .

That rhyme is frowned upon by experts due to some color variations. I still use it. The coral snake has a small mouth and it’s hard to get bitten by one. They are also very secretive, I’ve never seen a live one and only one dead one in a jar and I’ve spent 30+ years and many hundred hours out in...

A couple of days after moving back to the Southeast, my wife brought this to me for identification. Pretty little snake, isn’t it?

A broad headed skink sunning in the garden. Pretty critters eh?

A highly venomous South African puff adder in Northern Cape a few years back. They don’t typically kill any snakes but the puffy snake whose skin is in the photo below, was found in their laundry room. I said to the kids’ mother “That must have been scary, wasn’t it?”. The kids mother, a Ph.D...

Our new downstairs neighbor getting some cool shade before our 100+ days came to an end. He ain’t very big, 6ft or so. Didn’t see any hatchlings this year, they must have removed momma and made a suitcase or a pair of boots out of her.

Eastern Montana a few years ago. I always felt real small out there.
