    A Report in Four Pictures

Besides me soiling my pants....what do you do if one approaches you while in a float tube (me...not the snake)? Whack it with the rod tip?

    A VERY HAPPY DAY!!

That's a lot of hair! Geez...Mt Rainier HS....I got my ass kicked by the Mt Rainier HS 115 lb wrestler back in '78. Those were great times though.

    Another Hotrod….

5'7"?! Is this for leprechauns on an overgrown creek? : ). I remember casting a beautiful boo rod at our bamboo gathering on the Metolius. Maybe 4'. The builder was a friend of Dave's. Amazing how well it cast within 20 ft. Small stream specialist.

YOLO! - FlyBillz' First Bamboo Build

Gotta admit...this is the part I enjoy least. A lot of rodbuillders that use a beveler skip this step. It's a part of bamboo that is so interesting though. The strips when they just reach that correct temperature almost feel like soft plastic....unless you char it....then it breaks! These...

    Mark Frey --Bamboo Rod Works

I had not known of Mark Frey before your post and checked out his website. It is obvious he had a deep love of all things bamboo in his writing. I learned some things just from his website. He will live on in all the rods he helped bring back life to.

Rod Wraper, some books, and two sets of used Korkers soles

Awesome for someone to get started. I suggest for you to reconsider though. The beauty of rod building...at least if you have the space, is you can leave the project for an indefinite time and them come back to it later. Rather than a bamboo build, doing a unique fiberglass build on a 6wt...

    Pass Lake crayfish

This actually made me laugh out loud! Every 'fishing room' needs a calendar with a pic of these famous women on it. I'm sure a matching one with south Tacoma men on it would sell well for the women in our group.

    Oyster Bamboo rods

That's cool to know. I especially admire the builders that mill their own ferrules and reel seat hardware.

    The Trout Spey

Great fun to cast but for me at least, the same fish with a 6 wt singlehand is a little more fun than on a 3wt 11ft doublehander. The trade off is worth the ease of casting but all that heavy spey line softens the fight a little.

    Oyster Bamboo rods

I've learned to appreciate every handcrafted bamboo rod whether from a famous builder past and present, or Steve experimenting with his 'frankenrods'. The key is, a lot of thinking went into the build, and a lot of effort into the design. They feel best with a fish putting a deep bend into it...

    Harbour Island, Bahamas

Thanks for the pics and the report. You may have helped me convince my wife that a vacation down there would be to her liking. She's not really a beach or pool person but she likes good food. Is the town nice for cruising the shops and does it seem safe for her to go running or walking by...
