Deschutes didn't meet July numbers and is closing Aug 15th. Chance of reopening if July + Aug number meet targets but that is looking like a longshot. They also closed salmon to stop people from "salmon" fishing with steelhead gear, hopefully they do the same with certain trout gear too. A...
That looks awesome Dennis! I've done that on gear but need to get out there with a fly rod someday. That squid fly is wild!
Is that a watch window on your jacket?
Was thinking of you the other day when I saw JoshM throw up another fundraiser and also seeing the D closure.
Big Green Egg. Previous owner left it in the gazebo(but took the 80s style fridge), didn't look like he used it much. Took some time to dial in but I was also building a bark inside. Now everything cooks right from super hot to 18 hours of 225 and has an amazing smoke. If this one dies...
Spent my first 10 years of spey fishing with Echo rods. Great value, but once I bought a Meiser I replaced them all. Steelhead is just a casting game now so might as well enjoy that aspect as much as possible.
Bootfoot waders. I've been milking a pair of G3s for about 10 years now. Can't...
The crazy part is a lot of this is taking place in solid red counties.
Here in the Gorge it's ugly. 100 degrees and AQ around 175. The Grasshopper fire burned one of my favorite lake areas and now has turned back west and is crossing the 35. the summer crew at Mt Hood Meadows just evacuated...
It would be really interesting to know how those runs are doing. Seems like it would be a useful indicator on the ocean conditions vs headwater debate. I'd volunteer to go check it out but not sure I'd want to head to Russia these days.
In the mid-level category(I guess) my buddy does a week...
On the flip side I can do an 8 day GR float for gas money and a couple bottles of propane. Sure I have groceries and beer, but it's actually cheaper than what I'd be spending at home. My raft and all my fishing/camping gear probably runs about $15K but will last 15ish years. So lets say $1500...
I started running it that way too, in 3 days no less. Now I go solo in my 13'6" raft and take a week. Move day. Lay day. Move day. Lay day. Much more civilized.
I'd like to run it in the fall, but even starting at 30m it would probably take 10 days!
Here in the Gorge we had a massive tick hatch this spring and are now in the midst of a terrible steelhead return(about half the already bad 10 year average). Not great....
ooooh, I wouldn't want to float it now. Flows are crazy low. 5-700 cfs is around the normal cutoff and right now it is at....double checks the flows.... 58 cfs!
There is a gate at the top with one rock below the door, so you need to make one move. Honestly I'd call it a 2+.
PM me for more info Rob if you are looking to float it next year.
