    2026 Gardening Growing Thread

I have had rodent problems over the years as well. Trail camera ID'ed the actors as chipmunks and voles. Almost impossible to eliminate them so I pick as soon as the fruits start to ripen/turn red. The little creatures don't seem to like the green tomatoes and they leave them alone

    Fishing with Dogs

I can't take my Lab fishing. He sees water and he swims. I would have to duct tape him to a tree to be able to cast a line.

If I Had a Life Do Over

I would live a life like Stoney Calhoun who is the Maine Guide protagonist in the mystery series by the late, great William Tapply. If you have not read the 3 books, Bitch Creek, Grey Ghost, and Dark Tiger you really should

SFR "Premium" purchases you found to be "worth it"

When I went to Iceland & Amsterdam last year on Icelandic Air, I booked their "premium" class seating. More like business class than 1st. Worth every penny! I am a snob now and probably won't fly coach ever again for any long flight

A long trip equals a lot of pics - return trip added

That's the problem with MT/WY/and Eastern Fishing in general: The scenery and flora/fauna are so interesting it cuts into your fishing time

What is Your Fondest Memory When Fishing?

I took my son to Montana. He had never been to the West. Not only was the fishing really good, but he was awed by the scenery. Part of the trip was to Yellowstone and as a Microbiologist he was amazed at the colors of the hot spring pools. After talking with the rangers he was able to...

How do I store all these damn fly rod tubes?

    1. You can never have too many fly rods. You always have one less than you need. 2. Unless you are Felix Unger, or really need to have your rods in some sort of order, use a large tall trashcan. In addition, to being able to hold all your rods, no one (except you) will really know how many, or...

    SFR DEET

I should have added that I use spray with 20% Picardan (many brands have this). It seems to work as well as DEET, but does not last nearly as long. My experience is that you need to reapply about every 30-60 min. That being said, if black flies are a problem, the best stuff I have found is...

    International Ordering Issues

Over the years, I have direct purchased furled leaders and co-polymer tippets from a company based in Scotland called Barrio. Their products are really first rate and the cost was always reasonable. I know I can get the furled leaders from Blue Sky, but I have found the Barrio's ones to be...

They need to INSTALL free boats on various lakes

In northern New England many boats/canoes are stored upside down around remote lakes and ponds. The "tradition" is that anyone is welcome to use the boat as long as it is unlocked. The borrower is expected to bring his own oars and return the boat to the shore in the same condition & location...

SFR A decision has been made-big move coming

Pittsburg is about 2 hrs away from some great "famous" Trout streams in State College PA. Some of the waters include Spring Creek, Little Juniata, Penns Creek and many other locations. The fishing/bug life is particularly good due to water PH levels from limestone. I don't get there very...
