I use the Orvis knot a lot, especially for dry flies. I have a ton of confidence in that knot. I can tie it almost without looking, and I can usually tie it using very little spare tippet.

Nice solution. I thought you were going to say you tie in an easy attachment point at the tail of the point fly, some kind of eye loop or a loop of mono or braid for something to tie the tippet onto.
