    What's in your vise?

For me, the hardest thing to do when using dubbing and dubbing loops is making it sparse enough. All those leech are too fat and I was trying for skinny ones. Ugg..

    What's in your vise?

No. I started using them on top but they sunk after a couple cast so I used them wet. Not the first time this has worked. If they are looking up they’ll readily take the fly wet..This is in a lake..

    What's in your vise?

Micro Leech, Soft Hackle, Dry Hackle The dry hackle was very effective my last outing. It would sink a couple feet below the surface. Floating line, naked line style retrieve. Money..

Variable density sinking fly lines vs. traditional sinking lines

Cortland carries the Fo - Tech lines, which are 30-40 ft. sink heads (type 3, 6 or 8) mated to an intermediate runner line. They’re nice and a bargain, found on their web-site in the “warehouse”. They have some other interesting sinking lines there also..

    Cheap a** switch rod

I bought a 10ft, 6# Shakespeare from England. It’s a great rod for cheap. Nice workmanship and components. It was my backup lake rod for years. I’ve gone back to using 9ft rods so it’s headed to the classifieds soon.

    Floatant

I’ve been out of dry fly action for years. So I’m wondering if there has been any new, fabulous changes in fly floatant, as I start re-equipping my gear. What is working for you all.?

https://www.proofflyfishing.com/products/fenwick-grip-7 Those grips look a lot like this Fenwick grip I’ve put on some of my rods. I love the shape also. It fits the hand..

    So. Bay (floating) Leech Tutorial

I’ve always been a big fan of fishing leech patterns. It’s seems l could always catch a few, especially if l fished them deep. Problem is I’d lose so many to snags. In the Summer of 2024, I had been trying a dragon fly nymph with a heavy sink line to good effect. It was designed to float above...

    What's in your vise?

More floating leech. I’m kind of obsessed with these lately, as they really work.

    Rod Building Rainshadow

This is the last of the 3 Baston Rainshadow Unity rod kits I bought last Fall. It’s Rx3 graphite which makes it a medium flex, which is good for its intended use. These are great small rods for a little cash. I’ve been impressed with the quality of the blank. It’s forest green and just glows in...

    Cheap a** switch rod

I agree. I picked up a 10’ 6# Shakespeare for a lake rod, that only cost $120. Has titanium strip guides, quality reel seat, etc. It’s a nice rod. I also bought some Rainshadow kits for cheap and they’re the sweetest little rods around. You don’t need to spend a lot for good, usable gear..

    Slow Day Fly Progression

For me, yesterday was a slog. I had a lot of time to contemplate what hell I was doing. Whatever it was, it wasn’t working. I usually start on a sinking line with dragon nymphs and/or leeches. I’ve found they prefer a certain presentation of the day, so I try a different speed and rhythm of...

Non-Fly Easiest way to catch trout in rivers

Keep up pressure on it so you can feel the bite and help it over the rocks. My older brother, rip, was a great brown hackle fisherman. He used a fly rod to fling it out there, taking advantage of the length and soft feel..God he could catch the fish..

New blank to build - Rainshadow 6wt 10'8"

I’ve built 3 different Rainshadow Unity Rx3 this year and I must say, I’m impressed. High quality finish on those blanks with good fitting ferrules. Feels good in the hand and a bargain to boot.

    What's in your vise?

How do you cast those heavy bead heads? I’d need a supply of extra rod tips to make it work. LOL..
