First batch of Brazilian coffee in a while. So smooth and subtle. The nuttiness comes out as it cools off.

It’s interesting when people post stuff like this. There’s a wealth of information available but it probably makes for better videos to just wing it.

    Midge Tip vs Indicator Tip

I used a RIO outbound hover for a while. Great for bombing casts across shallow flats. Not great for stealthy casts to the cattails. The taper on my midge tip is a nice compromise. Something to consider with indicator taper floating lines…some are great for turning over a long leader and...

    Midge Tip vs Indicator Tip

I use a midge tip in some situations partly because my floating line rigs are setup with slip indicators and I don’t want to modify them :). I use the midge tip for specific situations, like feeding fish in very shallow areas, or a callibaetis hatch. Sometimes the fish want a fly moving upwards...

    Grimes Lake

Me too, @Buzzy It took me a few visits to get a handle on the fishing but once I figured out a few things it became a special place. I’ve not experienced another place like it.

How do you rig 2 flies?

Maybe it’s just coincidence, but I have noticed a seasonal link with how critical it can be to get our bugs near the bottom. Spring and summer, and especially during hatches, seem like the conditions when we gotta get our stuff down to within a couple feet. In the fall, when hatches are winding...

How do you rig 2 flies?

This is my standard leech up top rigging. Non-slip loop to the top pattern, improved clinch in the eye and whatever seems right on the bottom pattern. 3x fluoro most of the time.

Balanced vs Standard Leech Under Indicators

I like the color hot spot. But a little fluorescent ice dubbing works too. I have good results using a gold or copper bead with hot orange or yellow ice dubbing just behind it.

Balanced vs Standard Leech Under Indicators

I fished leeches under my indicator before I knew they could be tied on jig hooks and balanced. Now I have a box dedicated to balanced versions 😜. Like @Paul_ said, they all work better with a chop providing some movement. Edit: I still fish traditional leeches as my top pattern when I fish a...

    Which Weber kettle grill?

Made a spatchcock chicken last night on my 22” kettle performer. My dad gave me a bucket of hazelnut wood so I tried it for smoke. Setup my grill with a pile of coals on the side and cooked indirect for 1hr 45 min. Marinated the bird in citrus, salt, garlic, olive oil, fresh rosemary, and red...

Heart break hotel (stories of despair)

A few years ago on a June day at a central WA lake known to grow decent fish of many species, including brown trout, I dropped my boat in at a rough launch. I let the breeze push me off shore while I set up my 5wt and type 5 sinking line with a simiseal leech. I flipped it out behind the boat...
