    Rod holder for boat

On the sled: reels go in pouches, on the floor, with rod tips pointed out the back over the transom held by a foam rod holder. I used a 3 slot, might change to 6 slot. Foam rod holder is attached to a Scotty 367 fish-finder plate, with a small extension into a Scotty base.

    NBA Playoffs 2023

Favorites keep dropping games … personally I like it when recent (< 3 yr) conference / league champions go down. Spread the success and keep things interesting.

    NBA Playoffs 2023

It was something else to watch Harden just switch-switch-switch to get the defender he wanted. Boston will definitely have a response in game 2. Hoping Embiid gets back on the floor soon!

    Patagonia fishing and sightseeing recommendations

Have traveled all over Patagonia … if interested in nature, the Araucaria forests are mind blowing. The Alerce forests are cool, too, but not quite the mental floss of the monkey puzzles. Best to check on recent status, as a decade of drought and fire has taken its toll in some areas.

    NBA Playoffs 2023

I fully expect the East will win it all if key starters stay healthy, only wish it was my personal favorite 76ers instead of the Celtics or Bucks

    Grundens Waders?

I wish Grunden’s luck. It is good to have choices. I remember when Cloudveil stuck their toe in the wader game, they had an excellent product, but couldn’t keep up with the cost of repairs and bailed. For me, I won’t be trying these Grunden’s unless they make the XL and bigger wader booties...

    LT Truck Tires

These seem worth a look. I have been happy with 10 ply in a similar mild tread Bridgestone Revo, low noise and low rolling resistance, great in rain but awful in snow.

A 10hp kicker and a river: What kind of boat?

Drift boat (metal or glass) with motor is incredibly versatile. I haven’t been able to convince myself to do it (bought a sled instead) but it is the fishing craft of choice of most folks that I know.

When to not use a shooting head line

With shooting heads in moving water, you don’t so much “mend” as you “steer” the line. It is very effective when fishing a far seam across conflicting currents

    NFR Battery powered chainsaw(s)?

I’ve had the Ego for 5 or 6 years, use it to limb trees, buck the occasional 14-20” tree, and carry when I’m on day trips deep in the woods. Just gave my perfectly good gas Stihl to a friend, haven’t used it in years.

    NFR EV's?

We’ve had a Kia Niro EV 3+ years. I’m 6’5” 250 lbs and fit well. Comes with rails for roof racks. Zippy and not weird. We charge almost entirely at home from a standard outlet and get 240 miles of verified range. It is my spouse’s car but I use it whenever possible to save on fuel costs...

    Broodstock hatcheries/ epigenetics

If the question is practical aspects of running hatcheries in a wild broodstock steelhead hatchery program, there are a lot of examples in Oregon to draw upon. If the question is how these programs (vs traditional hatcheries) affect wild fish, good luck. ODFW was hard pushed by...

    What are you listening to?

Kinda odd that I heard this version first, but I was really into underground music as a kid and I guess my parents weren’t hippy enough

    American Made Flyrods

It seems by now every USA rod manufacturer has gone through a spell of slow delivery on repairs. Complaints are rampant. Pretty much the only rod companies you rarely hear complaints about are imports where they grab a pre-made replacement section from a warehouse bin. Most (not all) domestic...

Line Counter Reel + Rod Recs for Diver-Trolling?

The regular Okuma coldwater had problems, I’ve seen a few fail, though I think a known issue has been fixed. The Okuma low profile 354s have been more generally reliable and are plenty good for casual anglers, nice fat handle, line counter, and often go on sale for ~$100 (nice when buying...

The oldest rod you regularly use?

I regularly use rods that I bought / built in the early 1990s, 25-30 years ago : - Bunch of T&T Horizon 6-10 wts mostly built myself, including a heavy-use trio of 9wts with various heads for chinook salmon. They got this taper right, before all saltwater rods were designed for flats -...

Experience with Cheeky Limitless Reels? Other Mid-Priced Options?

Danielsson H5D 11-14. These reels IMO match single handers at their lower numbers (i.e., 11-14 is an 11/12 reel … can be stretched higher in a pinch)

    Cape Cod striped bass recommendations?

Look into the shuttle to Monomoy. They drop you off in the morning and pick you up in the afternoon. Flats fishing all day. Know your tides. Schoolies and larger solo fish. While known mostly for a brawling fight, it is amazing how quickly a big striper will peel line when it wants to get...
