    Non-Fly Boat's first halibut trip

Nice work, that's some good eats. How is the new motor working out? Were you happy with fuel burn numbers? Probably feels a little more comfortable offshore with a motor built this decade on the stern.

    Trailer Blinkers/Lights Troubleshooting

Sorry, late to the party. What sort of brakes does your trailer have? The seven pin connector has a backup light wire which powers a valve to disable/bypass your trailer brakes on a surge system. Otherwise if you back uphill you will be fighting your brakes. Some surge brakes may have a manual...

    Backyard Wildlife

The mountain quail got close enough to snap a few pics. They have cool markings and their head "noodle" is much longer and straighter than the CA variety.

    What's in your vise?

Getting a few more flies together for bass tomorrow.

This gal has not had her babies(s) yet. She was bedded down chewing her cud for quite a while before this. Also, are you familiar with these blossoms? If you want any I have enough starts for everyone. 😉

Bass update from the eastside (the spawn)

I'm also on the West side. I have only had one blow up on a frog so far but have tried top water each time now that the temps are consistently above 60. My youngest and I got into a good school yesterday after trout fishing. We picked up over a dozen in a bit over an hr. A bonus crappie to make...

    Backyard Wildlife

This morning I saw a doe, no longer bursting at the seams. She was on high alert and kept watching back behind the shop. Looks like fawning time has begun. If I see a buck smokin a stogie I will know my suspicious are correct. 😂

    Backyard Wildlife

Our resident CA quail have been spotted around the property. They were bold today and went in with the chickens in the electric fence run expansion. Here they were while passing through between the house and the main run. We also have a pair of mountain quail we see around. This is the first...

    What's in your vise?

Well, I couldn't get the bass to stick on the fly today but I did get a couple crappie. The popper looks good and I expect it to produce when they feel more frisky on the surface.

    What's in your vise?

My first attempt tying with nayat. Hoping the bass will fall for it. I'm not too disappointed. Made a popper also. Will have to see how all the rubber legs balance out.

    Non-Fly Bassin

Fished with one of my daughters this morning. She started off with three to my zero early on. Jerk bait was the big producer again. After I finally caught one on gear, I decided to spend some time throwing a fly. At our second spot I managed three more bass on the @clarkman special I was...

The does are getting ripe. Should be fawning time before long. Looking forward to watching those babies prance around.

    Non-Fly Bassin

Water has remained in lower 50's at my local lake. The jerk bait has accounted for the lions share of the catch, some on chatter bait. Last few weeks, double digits catch and usually done by noon as the wind has been kicking up by then.

    Westside lakes waking up?

Well, I wasn't after trout today. Didn't even target them but I had one take my jerkbait across the lake. My kids and I got 12 bass but had to work for them after the cold front.

Anyone wanna bank fish some lakes near the Portland area?

I live close to Hagg lake and fish it frequently. If you want any updates with reports you can hit me up. I may be too old to fish with though. The trout fishing has turned season to being more productive trolling than bank fishing recently. Also, the bass fishing is turning on. I will be...

    Westside lakes waking up?

Well, not on flies for me but the bass are starting to wake up. Took one of my daughters out Tuesday for a few hours before the wind kicked up. Landed six between us, all on jerk baits. I watched three of them hit which was pretty awesome. One of them tail slapped the boat as he hit right below...

    What's in your vise?

Some stocker trout catchers for trolling. Made another batch of different colors. My previous models have been doing well lately. Curious how the mesh tubing prototype will fish.

    Tuna 2024

I found out the party pack of water balloons that you hook up to a hose works well with my smaller wire tube flies. Look up Bunch O Balloons. Each balloon is connected to a tube. One of these should last years of tying.

Also an old reference. These flies make me think of Captain Cave MAAA-AAAN! Old school Sat morning cartoons.

    Evan's boat projects: floor replacement

Gas gauges are about as reliable as trailer lights.
