I was in Sunriver last week and while that area doesn't usually have many mosquitoes, this year it seemed to be worse than usual. So I can only imagine how bad they are right now in the Upper D where it's always bad, at least until fall. Thanks for the report.

I fished East in June and the water level was actually much higher than the previous two years. Thanks for the report, I might veer towards Paulina next visit even though I much prefer the topography of East for fly fishing.

I spend a lot of time in Sunriver and really enjoy the lakes down there in Sept-Oct. I've learned those trout like a black foam beetle dry, and although the callibaetis hatches are slowing by then after being the major hatch July - August, they'll often still take a callibaetis emerger well...

Someday, our very own Dave Westburg will publish his own stories of fishing Washington's remote lakes. I for one look forward to it!

Having one short bamboo rod is fun, especially for the small streams, and if it's a Granger it'll fish great. I really like the look of the Aristocrat model. I've been thinking of thinning my collection further, but my Granger Aristocrat 7633 would be one of a few rods I'd have a hard time...

Rick, thank you again for being such a great host and for being so helpful pointing out where and how you expected to catch fish on the two lakes. I'd been to one of them before but even on that one my past experience was lacking. Next time I'll bring a watercraft with oars to better cover...

I was going to post this saying I took it last Saturday with my iPhone at the bamboo fling. (I actually copied it from a post on classic bamboo fishing on FB, I believe it's from Maine or Eastern Canada). I think they like their spey rods! Cheers!

I wish we'd had another couple hours before that darn rain chased us away, I needed more time to browse the rods and do more casting. But seeing the old gang and a few first-timer (new) friends was a treat. Now I just need to find some choice crooked lines on the map to exercise my own bamboo...

That is very, very cool! Years ago I was working at a bank less than a block from the old Orvis store on Bellevue Way. They moved a block to the west and their old building was bulldozed for a new high-rise. I saw that beautiful, wood sandblasted Orvis sign laying in the rubble and wondered...
