This picture was taken about two weeks prior to his passing at one of...

    Monsos the magician

Glad you are finding it useful. For those who want to try this, be sure to use unwaxed dental floss to wick up the excess spar varnish beyond the wrap.

    Silk Fly Line

Silk lines are nice to cast but you need to maintain them. Dressing the lines before use and drying the line post fishing trip off the reel is needed to keep the investment from rotting. I think that the 406 fly lines (plastic) are a great alternative without the need for the maintenance. But...

It was a lot of fun, casting and talking bamboo it doesn't get much better than that. Dave arranged a wonderful toast to our good friend Tim Cottage (in hindsight it would have been a great picture..................). Tom Bowden's TriHex was amazing to cast and try to figure out how he...

    Bamboo at Mike's Pond

Dave is not exaggerating when he said you got to want it. I was about two thirds of the way through the 100 yards of underbrush when I asked myself, what the hell were you thinking you old fart! I don't think I'll stand on that shoreline again unless the access is improved. Here's one of Dave...

    Bamboo fling 2025

I am very excited to let you all know that a good friend and talented rod maker is planning to attend this year's Fling. Tom Bowden likes to experiment, and he took on the task of making what he calls a TriHex Bamboo fly rod. I will not try to explain the process or result; you'll have to see...

    Bamboo fling 2025

I made a copy of a Leonard 50D myself a few years ago. I'll bring it so I can compare it to a original. The one I made seems to work well with a 5wt, but I might see what it does with a 4wt line.
