Another South Fork fan here. I've had mine for 25 years now. It's been dragged miles through the woods, run down Class III river floats (and lots of easier ones), and been used on countless lakes/etc. Great fishing platform, and relatively lightweight. I think they cost about twice what I paid...

6 breaks for 3 rods. First four were all my poor, no longer casts worth a hoot, 6-weight Sage DS-2. It was my first and only rod for years. I think it was something of a learning tool and a sacrificial lamb, because I have only broken one fly rod since (the other was s spinning rod).

Pinks do seem to like relatively small flies, but they will also try to eat big plugs/whatever. Who knows? For sure, though, my most effective pink patterns have been size 4 or smaller.

Pink isn't the only color. They're salmon at the end of the day. Chartreuse and purple are other colors I have had success with. If they're ignoring pink, try something else. If there are a bunch around, one of them is bound to fall for it... or not. It's still fishing.

You need a high incoming tide, and you need to get up above the tailout of the Fuller hole before the tide turns. There's about a 2-3 hour window most days. If you know you're going to get there on the outgoing tide, you might consider motoring down to South Montesano to take out instead. But...

Fish hanging out deep is probably due to water temps. Rivers and estuaries are relatively low and warm now. The fish are probably hanging in the deeper, cooler water until conditions for migrating improve. Looks like that might happen tomorrow or Friday with a significant rain event. We shall see.

I think it's bull trout limiting fisheries on the Chiwawa, as others have suggested. Beautiful stream!
