    Telescopes (NFR)

It really depends on whether you want wide-field or high magnification. Lot's of used telescopes on the various marketplaces. Try something like this one and see if astronomy is something you want to pursue...

    Another amazing Patagonia adventure

It is unfortunate that the Patagonia region is so far from the Northwest. Maybe that's a good thing.

    What are you listening to?

When the topic is Northwest bands that coulda, shoulda, almost made it big....I think of Ellensburg's Screaming Trees and Oregon's Scott Mills, Dharma Bums.

    Central OR Guides

Considering a) mobility issues, b) the Lower Deschutes is way past its heyday, and c) the expertise of your group; you will have a better experience on the area's lakes. IF your trip is later in June, the high lakes will be more accessible and the weather likely better.

    What are you listening to?

Putah Creek is sort of like a miniature Crooked River. I couldn't believe the trout would ever see our flies in such discolored water.

    NFR Let's talk about generators

Well, the wind is blowing. Did your power stay on? Yes, gasoline has the most BTU's per unit of volume but it comes with considerable problems. Sacrificing a few BTU's for reliable starting, less maintenance, safe storage is why most larger home systems use LP/NG. (Typed while on GENERAC power)

    NFR Let's talk about generators

The next 24 hours might be the first test of your new generator. (I'm glad I recently had the Generac's LP tank topped off) Park Rose Hardware should have LP fuel supply line to run propane, if you're not able to make the connection to your utility's natural gas supply line.

    NFR Let's talk about generators

I'm nearly 30 years into various versions of backup/emergency generator systems. With the budget of ~$1500, and you having plumbed in NG, you will be well served by a tri-fuel generator, such as: https://firmanpowerequipment.com/products/t07571 And an Interlock switch so you can select any...

Things seen in Scotland... I will be back!

@ shawn seeger, Thank you for the great pics. The Orkneys are about the only place outside the NW that I really want to visit. You mention the ancient sites being everywhere, and that is what far nw Ireland, County Mayo, was like. The entire landscape was a museum sans entry fees, interpretive...

    NFR What Are You Reading

"Rediscovering Turtle Island, a first peoples' account of the sacred geography of America" by Taylor Keen. The author extensively references two books I've heard of but never read - "Custer Died for Your Sins" and "God is Red" - has me adding those the to-be-read list.

    Harriet Lake road access

Understand...the back-way from Ripplebrook Store to Lake Harriet is closed for their convenience, not the stated cause of "protecting us from falling trees". There's hardly any trees left along that road. My road with its overhanging cottonwoods is more hazardous than that closed road.

    Harriet Lake road access

An unfortunate update.... that back way gravel road by the Ripplebrook Store is closed again. Yesterday, June 1, after coming down to Harriet via Timothy Lake I tried to continue on and encountered brand new signs that the road was closed, threatening prosecution, etc. From what I saw two...
