    A Cooperating Angler (Redfish Report)

That’s fantastic, thank you for your efforts! I’m on James Island and am fortunate to enjoy this fishery a couple days a week.

    A Cooperating Angler (Redfish Report)

Back in July, I was staked out on the edge of a grass flat in the lowcountry marsh. I intended to pole the flat as the flood tide pushed up. Standing on my platform, I saw a big bronze shape suspended in the water column headed toward the grass from the open bay. Not yet tailing- but what we...

    Stoke Video

I spend a lot of time on YouTube- this one stands out. Enjoy. “Built in the U.S.- Bound for Baja. Want to catch a striped marlin on fly from a technical poling skiff? We did and made the 26+hr road-trip with skiff in-tow to make it happen. Follow the journey of a precision built 21R from...

    Official Beach Rod Thread

How about the Redington Vice 690? Any comparisons to TFO or Echo? I noticed the Vice 690S is listed at 3.4oz, whereas the Ion XL 690 is 4.7 oz.

    Official Beach Rod Thread

Any reports on the 690 Echo Ion XL? Seems to be the bottom end of the current production rod options.

    Official Beach Rod Thread

Thought it may be nice to have a beach rod thread to compliment the official beach line thread. Ideally it would be great to have some recommendations across the popular line weights and at different price points.

    Rain Jacket Fit for Casting

I’m between two sizes- should I size up to accommodate more layers for cold weather? Or size down for a trimmer/athletic fit as to not impede casting/movement?

Secondhand Reel Service- A Qualitative Analysis

I ordered a used (new to me) reel. Nautilus XL. I fish almost exclusively in saltwater, I’m interested to see how it holds up.

Secondhand Reel Service- A Qualitative Analysis

Thanks for the responses, interesting to hear service stories from other reel brands. Nautilus is next on my list, order placed last night.

    NFR Got any mammal pictures

Just finished 4 days in Yellowstone. Wolves were the highlight, and impossible to miss the bison. Saw several grizzlies and black/cinnamon bears- mostly via binoculars. Here were my best shots- We visited the park with non-angler friends, so I kept the rods at home. Many anglers on the...

Secondhand Reel Service- A Qualitative Analysis

Update- Hatch responding: “Due to exhaustion of parts, we do not offer upgrades from generation 1 to generation 2” Cost was gonna be $50 for the drag knob alone, not including replacement/repair of clicker spring. More than I want to spend on a secondhand reel.

Secondhand Reel Service- A Qualitative Analysis

Thought it would be interesting to share about my personal perspective on company communication and customer service related to fly reels, after reading threads regarding rod manufacturers and turnaround time for fixing/replacing damaged rods. All of my reel models were purchased secondhand and...

Agreed. I’ve caught skinnier, but he didn’t have much of a belly

    Mini Bully Report

River was running low and glacial/clear, but overnight rain had me nervous. Combed 2 miles of water to find a few players, this being the best. Another species on the @Evan B airflo special!

    Float trip heat

This is the best new addition for me this year. I wear lightweight pants + sun hoodie + hat + sunglasses, but my cheeks, nose and hands/feet are exposed. Sunscreen stick for the face and hands/feet designed like a deodorant stick so you don’t have to get your hands greasy/oily when applying...

    Micro-fisheries

One thing I miss most about living in the PNW are the many “micro-fisheries” I discovered over the years. Relegated to fishing weekends only, I had nightmares of fighting for elbow room at the popular river runs, boat ramps, and beaches. This, combined with unending curiosity (and boredom of...

Real costs/experiences of an outboard repower?

Following this thread- have a 1999 key west center console with a 70hp Johnson of the same year. I feel that a repower is inevitable, but I’m hoping to put it off as long as possible.

Mini Redfish Report (thanks @Evan B!)

Sweet! I’ve never travelled to fish them, been spoiled here locally in SC. Good luck!
