Tungsten is ideal for lake patterns designed for indicator presentations. Brass beads work too, but I like that I can use smaller tungsten versions when I want a slim profile. Tungsten is also better for tying balanced flies where the bead is on a straight pin out in front of the hook eye...

Visited two lakes recently with @Irafly . We found a variety of food options, like those above, for the fish, and below, because a good breakfast burrito is important! The fishing was interesting. Water that seemed vacant at 10am was the place to be at noon. Hatches were intense but short...

I’m seeing some sluggish paper wasps in Eburg. But it’s certainly shaping up for early traps.

The most promising solution to my “problem” is likely starting with more durable materials. It requires so little resin to coat a chironomid that I don’t use it up very quickly. And it’s pretty shelf-stable; likely more so than super glue. I’ll save the Gorilla glue for household stuff.

Wow that’s a great price for resin! I purchased a high-output UV light recently that was marketed for finding pet urine. I haven’t tried that yet…but it does great for curing the resin on my chironomids :unsure:

I freely admit that I have been influenced by the YT fly tiers I have been checking out recently. The durability of my bugs is reasonable. The one pictured above will be pretty stout because it’s just holotinsel and wire. Others made from flashabou and microtubing tend to fall apart after 10...

Two versions of the M&M, a micro leech popular in BC. I took some liberties with tailing materials but they both have the pearl mylar underbody and ostrich herl that seem like key components. Looking forward to giving these a soak.

I’ve been using UV resin for over 10 years. I’m curious if modern super glue is more durable and less smelly than Sally Hansen’s, which is what I started with.

I learned something today. I bought it because it was labeled as brushable super glue. Lock-tite makes it as well so I will have to see what the formula is.

I’m interested in improving durability of my chironomids so I picked up some brush-on Gorilla super-glue. I like the container and applicator. It has good online reviews for typical uses. It brushed onto my bug easily and looked great. Gave it a minute in the vise then moved it onto a foam patch...

I’m an interior BC newb and I’ve never been to Caverhill. But I think there’s a reason Meadow and Rock Island get a lot of repeat business and book out way in advance. I’ve put eyes on big fish on my two visits even if the fish I found have topped out around 18-19”.

So, I was looking at the photos @Evan B and @Buzzy posted of their recent roasts and I wondered if I could get something similar. Theirs are a bit darker, a bit less chaf remaining on the beans. This is my second roast of Guatemalan beans from my current bag: Probably let them ride for another...

They will happily eat your trout flies. Leeches are a good place to start.

I used my Moka Pot with my latest batch of SM’s Ethiopiques. Got the roast dialed in and the Moka Pot brews a strong cup. Excellent.

@Salmo_g yes, I use a Garmin Striker, powered by a 4.4ah Nocqua battery. The battery sits in one of my gear bags on my tube.
