    Merrill Lake update

-The lake is still open to fishing. -The last time I was there DNR had no parking signs posted by the gate. If you park there, there’s a small chance of getting a parking ticket. -There are other areas you can park and walk down, if you don’t want to chance getting a parking ticket. -“catchable”...

    Not trout lake report

This video motivated me to hit the lake again recently- https://www.fishthewestfilms.com/ryan-williams For whatever reason I’m feeling the need to get a glitterflake paint job and upgrade my 55# thrust Minn Kota to a 300 hp Mercury, on my drift boat.😂 I also caught a few other fish. I...

    Multi species Merwin trip

The boring part trolling around for these- This is what caught the Kokanee (with tuna corn on the hooks) at 50’- 60’ on the downrigger- After my Kokanee limit was achieved, I broke out the 5 wt and the fun part took place (I’m easily amused). This was the fly that worked for the NPM-...

Retrieving balanced leeches in still water

I do it all the time. I don’t tie them any different from when I bobber fish with them. I do use offset beads now, instead of a pin and bead. I’m looking forward to stripping this one on a slow sink line.

    Not trout lake report

Here’s a PSA. Targeting warmwater fish is fun. It only took me 30 years of driving by this lake to finally stop there, and figure that out😂. If you haven’t tried it, you should. It’s simple. A white jig leech a few feet under an indicator is all you need to catch multiple species. The...

After work trip with new species for me

I made a quick evening trip up to Silver Lake in search of Crappie and Bluegill. I caught lots of Crappie, 1 LMB and no Bluegills. A small jig baitfish pattern under an indicator worked well. I was trying a Boobie on a full sink and was getting lots of hits, but I couldn’t get a solid hookup...

    Merrill Lake closure

I don’t have as much history at Merrill as you. I only started fishing there in 1999. In my experience the fishing is no worse or better now, than it was when I started fishing there. The wild Coastal Cutthroat are the staple of the fishery and the data shows their size and population density...

    Merrill Lake Status?

The last I heard from DNR was they were “hoping” to have it back open in late summer.

This is something I’ve been looking for. Does it show your speed (trying to dial in Kokanee trolling)?

Maiden trip for the Costco boat box.

The box worked nicely and I have no complaints. I liked having the top compartments as kind of a storage/work area while fishing. This was at the end of the day, so it’s a mess- A bonus for the trip was calm water and nice weather- And very good fishing- I would have never guessed...

    Replacement for Subaru Forester?

After pricing new/used trucks and seeing they were out of our price range we got a Subaru Ascent. It has plenty of power with its 2.4-liter turbocharged 260 hp. engine. It can tow up to 5000 pounds. It has 3rd row seating. The seats can fold down to provide lots of storage area.
