Big game saltwater 60 degree jig hook?

I actually have some of those and some jig 60s. I really like the jig 60s for a LMB jig I tie. I used to tie it on the jig 90 but my hookup rate sucked with that hook. Switching to the 60s seemed to really help. It is also a bigger hook I guess. I just pulled some out and compared the wire...

Big game saltwater 60 degree jig hook?

I am looking for the jig hook equivalent of the Gamakatsu SL12S and it doesn't seem to exist from the top fly hook brands. The closest I can find are the Gama J60 Crab and the Ahrex SA254. Both top out at 1/0 and I am looking for a 3/0 or 4/0. There is an Eagle Claw that I have bought in the...

Cool shot. Try increasing the "warmth" to get rid of the blue cast on the snow.

French Polynesia vs Coco Keeling Islands

I have never been to either and don't know anything about French Polynesia, but this guy has made a bunch of videos that make Coco Keeling look like a very fun destination.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

Nice. That will cut the run in half. I never noticed that town. I thinking that sand bar out from there is absolutely covered in birds and I was always watching them as we went by. You are not far from the military base - behave yourselves!

    What's in your vise?

I know. I see a lot of guys touching that stuff - even super glue. I am going to try it wearing gloves.

    What's in your vise?

This video shows an interesting trick to keep the upper wings from fouling on unweighted versions. I have a hard time keeping mine from fouling so I will be using this UV trick in the future. Just wondering how durable it is.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

Sounds like you were fishing the same area we did. Where did you stay in Puerto Chale? That would be really nice to fish out of there instead of San Carlos.

I am guessing it is in that area as well. Might cut 20 minutes off the run to the marlin grounds. Everyone was fishing off the south end of Isla Santa Margarita.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

From the landing in San Carlos to where we started fishing was 59 miles. The image above represents a little more than 20 miles covered while fishing for about 4 hours. Do you know where the camp is? I don't see a map on the website.

Mag Bay 2026 trip in the works... want in?

I turned on Strava the other day and saw that I never ended a recording of one of our marlin days. This gives you some idea of how much chasing around you will be doing. Note the scale in the lower left corner. The total distance for the day was 141.5 miles.

    Deals at online Retailers

I bought one as a backup for the Mag Bay trip. They are really nice rods. I could chuck a 500g Leviathan as far as I wanted with it. Quality/finish seems pretty good too. Wish there was still a 10wt available.

I will add practice casting your 12wt while standing on a bosu ball in the wind with targets scattered 360 degrees around you. I was pretty confident going into the trip. Casting on a boat being bounced around in the waves is quite different than standing in a field of grass. Took me a full...

    Got any bird pics?

My mother in law lives in Corvallis. I will have to check that place out. In fact I read Northern Harrier and was thinking Goshawk - not quite the same thing. I have seen plenty of Marsh Hawks. When did they become Northern Harriers?

    Changes

Congrats. We didn't get to meet on the trip I did in 2024 - I think you had COVID. Will have to try to fix that in the next year or 2. This new boat looks like an upgrade for sure. Anyone needs someone to fill a trip, let me know. I didn't think I would do another albacore trip after the...
