The cold brew was excellent. Got my next batch going with another Kenya-origin. I’ll press it tomorrow and see how it turns out.

    Yellowjacket equinox

The trick with Sevin is getting the workers to track it into the nest. If you can’t access the entrance, that’s a challenge. Maybe Shad Chunks laced with permethrin would be more appropriate?

Ground nests be gone! This is what I use. Poor a cup or so in the entrance at night.

I chalk it up to different beans looking different, especially for lighter roasts. My Kenyan beans are on the small side, too. Hot days and cold brew coffee are a “thing” for me :)

I’m making the switch to cold brew and lighter roasts. First up, a Kenya-origin batch roasted to the end of first crack. I’ll rest it a few days.

    Non-Fly Interesting PS catch

My first thought was a mutant staghorn sculpin… but, hmmmm…no spines on the cheeks. Gut was full of krill and crabs…no teeth…gotta be a cabezon. I’ll let @Cabezon have the final say.

    Non-Fly Interesting PS catch

Picked up this thing in area 10 …about 60’ of water on flounder gear. I know at least one forum member who will have a strong guess on the species ;) 🤯

    Playing Live Music 2025

Double header yesterday in Kittitas Valley. First up, an afternoon show with Pygmy Rabbits at PUNCH Projects in Thorp. We had our full lineup and did two sets. PUNCH is one of my favorite venues with great staff and rotating art installations. Got to visit with @Billy and Liam who were in town...

A reliable indicator of the change from spring to summer…my traps have the last of the queens and first of the drones. It’s been productive this year; >100 queens since I hung my traps in late April. Hopefully thinned out the local population 🐝

saddle feathers for soft hackle ties?

+1 for Whiting soft hackle with chickaboo. Also dyed Pheasant rump patches work well.

    Playing Live Music 2025

Had a fun night out with my latest acoustic lineup. We did three sets of tunes at Conerstone in Eburg. They have music Friday and Saturday nights on an outdoor stage and we hit the weather just right. It was hot during setup but when we started at 7pm the shade was across the entire seating...

    Grimes Lake

One of the bigger rattlesnakes I’ve had the pleasure to meet right up close. It wasn’t happy that I set my anchor down right on top of it. It’s a good thing they announce their presence.

I haven’t seen snakes out on the lake. But watch your step around the launch!

    Coffee talk

That’s more than I paid for the Kona beans I have, but the top end roasted coffee goes for >$80/lb. Bonkers. I’d rather roast it myself. For anyone who gets the opportunity, take a coffee tour on the big island.

    this fly was on fire

Yes, marabou fibers stripped off the stem and kept sparse. Sparse dubbing on the body and widely spaced wraps of hackle. Maximum movement from the hackle and tail fibers on the retrieve.

Looks like a seal bugger with a longer hackle than typical. Here’s what mine looks like. I could match yours with some minor tweaks.
