    Fly Fishing Elitism?

This is a link to a story about an organization that I have never heard of (International Assoc. of Theo. Roosevelt) promoting the idea that there should be no restricted fishing areas (i.e. fly fishing only). The group’s argument is that most fly fishermen are wealthy, ergo, regular people are...

In defense of the fly fishing club

My local TU chapter has about 400 members. If 12 actually show up for a meeting, that is a big crowd. The local Fly Fishing Association meetings are better attended with 25-50 people coming as the meetings are held in a pub and one can purchase food and/or adult beverages. The caveat to those...

How have you adapted to fishing with Age and Medical Challenges?

I have a 14ft Sportspal aluminum (Radisson) canoe. It weighs 38 pounds and has a 750lb capacity. Very wide beam and very stable in the water, allegedly "can't" tip with sponsons. It is easy to cartop. I put it on/off the top of my Tacoma without difficulty. When it gets to the point where I...

How have you adapted to fishing with Age and Medical Challenges?

More time in the canoe on lakes/ponds instead of river fishing More "careful" wading and avoidance of really slippery locales Less "spontaneous" trips. No tent camping, opt for cabin if at all possible Remember to always bring "pee" bottle for night use so I don't have to walk to bathhouse

    NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

I had to look up what OCA is. Never heard of it before. I hope it tastes better than it looks!

    Favorite Fly To Tie?

Unfortunately, every year I seem to have a new favorite to tie. That is why I have enough flies for at least 6 lifetimes.

The rule of thumb is five or less.......materials.

I would nominate a Woolybugger. You can use one, or a hundred and one different materials to make the fly.

SFR Good news (for a change) about Salmon

    Neoprene Waders?

I had a pair of Hodgman neoprene that lasted for many years. Unfortunately, last winter I left them hanging in my garage and the mice realized that the neoprene made great nest insulation.

NFR Nothing to do with fishing, just a great story (and in Bremerton)

Only the NY Times would ever have this kind of reporting https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/11/20/us/typewriter-repair-seattle-bremerton.html?unlocked_article_code=1.2k8.VYnq.m5P7rpjZR8Wk&smid=url-share This is a share and should work.

Waders that will last me at least 5 seasons

In my experience, the only waders which last forever were my old ( and I do mean old) Red Ball rubber waders. They were horrible to wear, but you almost couldn't cut them with a knife. Now I alternate between a pair of LL Bean zipper fronts ( no linger sold) and waist high Dryft. I actually...

Affordable places you would actually want to live

Actually, I like where I live-New Hampshire. An hour from the ocean, and hour from the mountains, and an hour from Boston (traffic dependent). In addition, the state has no sales, or income tax. Trout & Salmon fishing is not as good as I would like, but I have many spots in Maine, Vermont...

I am unsure of how you get the cheese into the rolling paper. Maybe just use a bong instead?

Are fly fishing magazines a thing again?

I only get one fishing magazine anymore: Fly Tyer. The pictures are just great. Way better than my monitor I used to get at least 3 mags, but times have changed.

    SFR Vermont recreational use pass

I got the original "geezer pass" to the National Parks. It is the best $10 I ever spent. I would pay a fee to use state parks here in NH if they asked. There is a boat registration fee if you have a motor. I have an electric trolling motor for my canoe and pay the yearly reg cost. There...
