How do I store all these damn fly rod tubes?

    1. You can never have too many fly rods. You always have one less than you need. 2. Unless you are Felix Unger, or really need to have your rods in some sort of order, use a large tall trashcan. In addition, to being able to hold all your rods, no one (except you) will really know how many, or...

    SFR DEET

I should have added that I use spray with 20% Picardan (many brands have this). It seems to work as well as DEET, but does not last nearly as long. My experience is that you need to reapply about every 30-60 min. That being said, if black flies are a problem, the best stuff I have found is...

    International Ordering Issues

Over the years, I have direct purchased furled leaders and co-polymer tippets from a company based in Scotland called Barrio. Their products are really first rate and the cost was always reasonable. I know I can get the furled leaders from Blue Sky, but I have found the Barrio's ones to be...

They need to INSTALL free boats on various lakes

In northern New England many boats/canoes are stored upside down around remote lakes and ponds. The "tradition" is that anyone is welcome to use the boat as long as it is unlocked. The borrower is expected to bring his own oars and return the boat to the shore in the same condition & location...

SFR A decision has been made-big move coming

Pittsburg is about 2 hrs away from some great "famous" Trout streams in State College PA. Some of the waters include Spring Creek, Little Juniata, Penns Creek and many other locations. The fishing/bug life is particularly good due to water PH levels from limestone. I don't get there very...

Oregon no hunt/fish proposal (NY Times)

I know that there was a prior thread about this, but I could not find it. Here is the NY Times article on the issue. Personally, I thought the proposal was so goofy that it would never get anywhere, but who knows. Where I live in NH, a proposal like this would be laughed at, at best...

I bought a new pair of Korkers which came with a spiked Vibram sole. I have always used spiked felt when needed for very slippery conditions. Does anyone have experience with this combo? with the spiked Vibram for use with slippery sites. Thanks

    Loss of Dexterity Sucks!

I am also an "older" tyer at 75. I have lost some dexterity (especially with hand cramps), but I believe it is my diminished patience that is most impactful on my tying now. I have adapted my tying by not attempting any flies smaller than 18. I also have allowed myself to use foam instead of...

    Ants!

Personally, I fish ants all the time. The fish see them on a daily basis as they fall in the river off trees and/or hit the water by accident when flying ants are around. You don't have to wait for a "hatch" either. Fishing ants close to the bank, or undercut is a very productive technique...

    Name this mayfly

I would normally guess PMD, or PED, but the eye color seems wrong and the wings are much more opaque and yellow than I would expect. I don't know about the size, or when the photo was taken, but I suspect it could be a Hex fly as well
