    The good boat deal thread

Looks a lot like an old Lavro/Yellowstone without gunwales. Probably pretty noodly as it sits, stiffened up they handle like ferraris

OSP needs help (fishing closed waters on Walla Walla river)

Crummy fishing days...the river (like most around here) were on the steep rise...12/13 avg flow at Pepper Bridge (near State Line) about 74 cfs, on 12/16 was 137...

    Makin' bacon

Thanks for the airfryer tip for bacon. Our oven, with convection capability, does not cook bacon properly in any sort of time. When the crowd is here, I've gone to a cast iron griddle on my gas Weber, which handles the volume and crisps the bacon properly. I like Roper collect the grease in a...

    Vibram or felt sole..?

Vibram alone are worthless in the wet. I gotta try these aluminum barred soles.

    Missing Duck Hunters Found Dead

Both members of Spokane Fly Fishers per the club message to members today. I didn't know them, but I understand both were thorough sportsmen and gentlemen. Certainly a tragedy. My condolences to their families. I've fished Sprague a bit this year. I have no idea if these folks were boating...

    Outboard engine "hours" question

Wow, I hope this works for my 03 Yamaha...It's got a recently installed hour meter, but that's basically telling me what time the barn door was closed. My Yamaha purchased used last year pushes my 900 lb. Lowe Sea Nymph at about 25 mph (according to the speedo) at 4500. I'll have better info...

    Any New Mexico Stillwater Recommendations?

I advise you to contact Duranglers in Durango, or High Desert Angler outa Santa Fe. Both quality outfits, High Desert in particular I recommend as straight shooters. FYI, I was there that same time period last year and hit a late spring runoff right in the middle, no fishing to be had. Try...

    New remodel project.

No, I pull combustion air from outside, exhausting it outside (obviously). My heater unit is inside, with intake and exhaust through the floor. My fuel setup is kinda hillbilly, but it’s stood the test of yime….pm me if you need more documentation

Since we don't have enough snow... 60 days and counting

There's a lotta winter left, folks. Since I don't have to shovel rain, I'll be happy for now with a pretty good snowpack and moisture, though I do note it's now normal because of (1) a big storm the week of November 19 which brought significant rain, and 2) this last set of storms around...

    New remodel project.

I converted my E250 to a simple campervan many years ago. A couple of things I did that you might find useful in your thinking: My powered vent fan is excellent. I used a Fantastic Vent fan, on a single fused circuit. It's been very nice and the only night we were uncomfy due to heat was in...

$100 Million for One Square Mile: Deal to Protect Land in Grand Tetons (NY Times)

Its always best to have the last of a thing to sell. Thsnks, Wyoming, for making it available to my grandkids.

    SFR Pheasant Farming for hunting

It works in North Dakota. Farmers take an acre out of a crp field, the game department gives them seed to plant a food plot on that acre and and compensates them for the lost revenue. They also toss some chicks out there. After a couple seasons living in the crp cover and eating the food, birds...

    SFR Pheasant Farming for hunting

What RRSmith said. In our state, we’ve done that, too. Pen raised birds dumped on release sites have replaced the old farm raised bird system and private pheasant preserves now allow pay-to-play on some old ranches. Most other private land is now leased by “hunting clubs”. Modern farming has...

Why/when would you use UV cure vs zap-a-gap or superglue?

FYI, don't breathe the fumes of any of this stuff. And take care, you can develop sensitivity over time, just like I did with toluene in rubber cement and MEK in fiberglass hardener. It's not good.

    Tapered leaders?

I like furled leaders…(flame me now). They turn over flies nicely, come with a tippet ring, and I think they absorb shock of the massive strikes provided by the trophy fish I commonly attract…🤪. I used to get them from the fly shop in Lacey, they’re gone now. New to me supplier is cutthroat...

NFR Food better the next day

1: as said previously, stew. 2: anything you can tun into hash. Because hash is the best.

    Bear Lake in Spokane County

Lincoln, Adams, Ferry, Okanogan....not sure about Grant. Oh, and rivers??? Yeah, the Spokane, the Little Spokane, the Colville, etc. etc. I've had the poacher hotline on speed dial for a long time. Started when I saw a young woman in a kayak at Amber with at least 12 big fish, slingin' bait. I...

Tigers of the Kilombero (Tanzania – Nov. 2024)

Beautifully written and imaged, and a very complete and compelling depth to the story. I feel like I did after reading an old Outdoor Life story and watching American Sportsman at the same time. Thanks so much for sharing those experiences. Can somebody assemble these into an article so I can...
