They are an always welcome, and amusing, on the moving water.

DryFly82: I have Matterhorn on the bookshelf. Have to decide if I want to read it. Just finished The Boy Who Said No. A great story about life in Cuba under Castro. There is a sequel - Stalked: The Boy Who Said No, which I have next on my list.

Cabezon - Excellent, as it usually is. We do have our own group of harlequins at our local mid-sound beach. Never tire of seeing them.

Just started Cold Victory by Karl Marlantes. I liked his book, Deep River, so I thought I’d try another book he wrote.

It must be tough for hummers right now. Just had five of them at my feeder a bit ago. All perched and feeding at the same time. Never seen that happen. Generally, they are much more territorial.

RR - can’t believe they would actually consider cutting down a nesting tree. Barred owls are very aggressive, even now. An open season them?

I had the pleasure to work in the woods outside of Enterprise, OR one summer. In my work area there was a goshawk nest. I had numerous sightings of both the male and female. Sometimes they would announce their presence flying through and breaking small pine branches. Of course, the ground...

I was at that beach a bit before you. No fishing, just looking. All I saw were loons and buffleheads - and a lot of debris. Water was a bit cloudy for this guy. Next trip, I’ll be fishing.

Cabezon - you reminded me of a TV that flew over the house a couple of years ago. I was quite, pleasantly, surprised.

I’ve had the pleasure of scrub jays at my office in Burien. Always a pleasure to have them around. And, the Cooper’s hawk that keeps the rock doves in check.

I have been saving pennies since the early 70’s. I have “few” now. For sale at $.03 each. Bring a hand truck!
