    Dismantling of the USFS

I think your Amazon assertion is a bit off: Amazon paid $19+ Billion in Income Taxes in 2025. https://wallstreetnumbers.com/stocks/amzn/income-tax

    Dismantling of the USFS

28 years in government service in the USAF as a counterintelligence officer, 10 of those years working with other US government agencies overseas. 26 years+ as a strategic planning consultant with clients ranging from Fortune 500 across a wide spectrum of industries down to mom+pop...

    Dismantling of the USFS

Good article. However the real “stick in the mud” aspect of this is missing in my mind—A Comprehensive Productivity Measure. Without judging, the begging question is this: Does a dollar spent on a Federal workforce generate more, less or the same level of productivity as that dollar spent in...

    Dismantling of the USFS

My only questions are these?: Is the data correct or incorrect? And why did NIFC apparently hide data to portray a scenario not actually backed up by that data? As to attacking the source, such is a common tactic even when the data is black and white. The source supposedly isn’t “credible”...

    Dismantling of the USFS

Multiple posters have invoked “climate change” as a driver of increased wildfire activity thus implying that any change to USFS organization and funding will ultimately result in more fires and their adverse result. They claim wildfires are increasing because of climate change. Although the...

    Dismantling of the USFS

“ for others the will of the wealthy and powerful.” Agree but on both sides of the aisle just via different agendas—wealth thru corruption, wealth thru foreign manipulation or wealth thru legitimate and civilized enterprise and the power that goes with that wealth regardless of its origins.

    Dismantling of the USFS

I come from a Special Investigative/Counterintelligence background and have been trained to disassociate facts from opinion. A reorganization — 10 regions to 6 centralized service centers is not dismantling Consolidating 50 research functions into a centralized research organization is not...

Viet Nam Veteran’s Day March 29

During our 2020 trip to Australia as we were on our way to Eastern Victoria we found ourselves with some time to kill in a small town-Seymour-on the highway east of Melbourne. We stopped at the tourist info center to see what’s what in Seymour and an unexpected attraction revealed itself...

    Pucker up

@SurfnFish said above: “Amazon: Has consistently paid very low rates (roughly 6% in 2021) compared to the statutory rate. Here’s the revenue/profit history: https://fourweekmba.com/is-amazon-profitable/ https://legalclarity.org/how-much-does-amazon-actually-pay-in-taxes/

    Pucker up

Corporations (not individuals running the corporation) pay income tax not on income but on net, taxable profits. It's irrelevant the amount of income if expenses (capital and operational), investments, depreciation, tax credits, etc. exceed the amount of income--ie. no profit, no taxes.

    Pucker up

Rob’s “Pucker Up” rant reminded me of days long ago where I had the same sentiment he has today that I experienced in 1972. I was fours years into my USAF career after tours in Vietnam and McChord AFB when I landed an assignment in Great Falls, MT. Growing up in SoCal I got my first license to...

    New to fly tying

“When a man is standing at the top of a cliff, it isn’t fear of falling that keeps him rooted to the edge — it’s the fear of not being able to resist the desire to jump, just to see what falling feels like.” ― Cristelle Comby, Russian Dolls Beware the abyss you are about to enter.

    NFR Vintage wall clocks

Interesting thread. My mother's oldest sister born before the turn of the 20th century was a clock fanatic. Her homes in Alabama were awash with clocks, all functional in every room. My aunt got me started showing interest in having a few interesting clocks about. After a decade of more...

Yellowstone Extends Firehole, Gibbon and Madison River Fishing Season

Although it’s pure speculation on my part, one motivation for extending the season, at least on the Gibbon section above the falls is an extended kill season for browns. Several years back the NPS implemented an unlimited take limit on non-natives in what is called: Native Trout Conservation...

Yellowstone Extends Firehole, Gibbon and Madison River Fishing Season

In a rather unheralded move, the NPS in Yellowstone lengthened the fishing season on the Firehole, sections of the Gibbon and Madison River in the park. For decades the opener occurred on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, basically the end of May. This year the rivers will open up for...
