    New Orleans Redfish in February

I've had good experiences with Brandon Keck. A few years ago, I made a Mardi Gras popper that was pretty neat and donated it to him. I'll see if I can find a picture of it.

    NFR Government shutdown

Anyone in the house or senate who uses a government shutdown as a means to try to force legislation through will never get a vote from me again. Whether I agree with their policies or not. You can't use government employees and contractors and pawns. If you believe in the legislation you're...

    NFR Government shutdown

If able, it would be helpful to have eyes on the water in areas that will be less patrolled if a shutdown happens. Poachers and suction dredge miners will probably try to take advantage. If you see anything happening, please call it in to either 911 or the WDFW tip line.

Could you please show me any studies that were left out of the meta-analysis?

50 years worth of studies show hatcheries negatively impact salmonids

There's some awesome science linked to in the article. https://www.hatchmag.com/articles/50-years-research-overwhelmingly-shows-hatcheries-are/7715778?fbclid=IwAR1ktRNfpGN3OTNmO3msC-zbZ2Sae5EAB3jET7j3fjukRox-76qonPOd7DA Here's a link to the study the article is based on...

In a Storied River, Fish Are Dying in Droves as Climate Change Scorches Canada (NY Times)-Very disturbing info

It's certainly interesting. My critical brain is sending up red flags that as ocean conditions off the Washington Coast improve for bluefin tuna, what reason would there be for them to be less common than the archaeological record (according to this study) suggests they are. The most...

In a Storied River, Fish Are Dying in Droves as Climate Change Scorches Canada (NY Times)-Very disturbing info

Do you have anything I can read to learn more about the tribes hunting bluefin inside the straits? That's something I hadn't heard, and I'd like to learn more about it.

    NFR Groundwater?

The wells we get our water from in Moses Lake see their water level drop about 10 feet every year now. My neighborhood gets terrible water pressure, and they're about to build over a hundred new houses here. Locally, the issue has almost nothing to do with those evil foreign countries that...

In a Storied River, Fish Are Dying in Droves as Climate Change Scorches Canada (NY Times)-Very disturbing info

This is so sad. Now we're also seeing Mahi Mahi, bluefin tuna, and other warm saltwater species being caught off the Washington coast. Not a good outlook for our native salmon and steelhead.

NFR No scientific proof that happiness techniques work...

This is a great topic for today's world. It highlights a few things that we should all keep in mind. This study is interesting - but it in no way whatsoever "proves" anything. It's a piece of evidence to consider among an entire field of study that people spend their entire lives trying to...

    Walleye on the fly

I've had a number of them landed in my boat when fishing the smallmouth beds around Goose Island as well as a couple areas on Lake Roosevelt. Best luck has been with black leeches on the bottom. Mostly incidental fish, but there were a few times we tried for them and had a little success.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

I was told directly by WDFW staff that sport hunting is not going to happen for sea lions. I’m not interested in going down the rabbit hole of why hunting sea lions with firearms poses a safety concern. It’s still a violation of federal law, so we don’t need to discuss hypotheticals.

CA Seals and Sealions eating all of WA Springers?

I don’t know exactly how toxic it is, but I haven’t heard of anyone recommending PPE for handling any fish.

    I got it from this: https://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/SeaLion/docs/Columbia%20River%20Basin%202022%20Section%20120(f)%20Sea%20Lion%20Management%20Report.pdf Here’s a screenshot:
