And why my Winston feels better with a 444, too. But Porter2 made a good point and one I often overlook.

    Questions about older rods

I don't know if this helps - and I should have mentioned it earlier. I own a Winston BiiT 864/4 that casts like it's part of me, and also own a Redington Voyant 8'6" 4wt near broomstick of a rod that I can cast a long distance (for a 4wt). I once owned a Redington CPS 908/4 that I sold much...

    Questions about older rods

Does anyone use the Sage Sonic? I've been offered a good price on one, and I'm tempted since the pages Merle posted describe it as "between the LL and the X" and medium fast. I'll be able to test it before buying it, but I'm not sure if it's worth the drive.

    Questions about older rods

I've owned a lot of Echo rods, and my salmon rod is an Echo 3swt. I like the ION XL 905/4, and gave mine to a son-in-law when he wanted to start fly fishing. I also had a Redington CT and don't know which kid ran off with it. And yes, the modern rods are a great value, and I haven't written...

    Questions about older rods

Thank you. I've seen a couple a good deals on the RPL, but didn't know enough about them to take the plunge. I'm in Port Orford, Oregon. The closest - absolute closest - fly shop is in Eugene, Oregon, a four-and-a-half hour drive. That's why I'm asking the forum about how the rods feel to...

    Final Blow to Pebble Mine?

Not disagreeing, but it might be better if we revised the General Mining Act of 1872 to make it harder for foreign firms to mine our more sensitive areas, like the Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Bristol Bay...

    Questions about older rods

Thank you. I understand that designation, but I'm not searching for a moderate action like the Redington CT. I'm after something more moderate-fast leaning towards fast. This will be a steelhead rod for small rivers - too small to bring out a spey setup.

    Final Blow to Pebble Mine?

They're trying to resurrect it. Alaska asks US Supreme Court to undo EPA Pebble mine veto

    Questions about older rods

Since I'm trying to gear up again after a brush with death, I've learned I'm pretty stupid about older rods. I'm looking for Scott and Winston and Sage rods from before they became super- and ultra-fast actions, but I can't sort them out. I'm looking for a somewhat slower action - but faster...

    Used reels from Japan?

Thank you. Now I need to gear up again. Got rid of too much stuff when the prognosis was bleak.

    Used reels from Japan?

I like your assumption. It beat my suspicious nature by lightyears.

    Douglas Sky G?

Has anyone cast the S609-4? I don't have a shop nearby who has one in stock. I'm leaning towards the S-version of their 6-weight to get the fighting butt, but not if it has different casting characteristics than the regular 609-4.

    Used reels from Japan?

Thank you. Working on building strength with my kayak but not fishing. Yet. I haven't even made a single cast this year! SHEESH.

    Used reels from Japan?

See the above. I thought the items could be counterfeit because the same item was being offered by lots of sellers. I should have considered Merle's assumption before wondering if there was something nefarious going on.

    Used reels from Japan?

Thank you for that. It's what I ran into, also - same pictures, different sellers, different prices, different strategies. It's what caused me concern. I can see how your supposition could be what's going on, and I should have thought about that first and the possibility of counterfeit items...

    Used reels from Japan?

I've been trolling the internet in search of an 8/9 weight reel, and as part of it, I also looked at the auction site. I was shocked to see how many reels I could buy, "used", from Japan. You could almost plug any reel into the search bar, and sure enough, there'll be scads of them available...

    Simms Bought for $192 Million

First you jettison the least profitable parts of the business and concentrate on the areas with the highest returns. And to an earlier challenge, yes, I do understand commitment to quality. It fits right in there below commitment to earnings. You don't stay in business very long if it's...
