If you miss a strike or lose your fish with a strip set, what do you do?

I usually question the fishes parentage.... like "YOU BASTARD!?!" Once on the North Fork, I had a steelhead nearly yank the rod out of my hands, only to drop the fly before I could put the beer down! A quick cast back to the same swing, and this time I got the hook set... nice fish. (yes, that...

    Coldwater closed

I think a call to any Washington Senator, or Congressman would probably change the USFS's attitude! Unfortunately .. what connections I may have had were voted out long ago.

    Coldwater closed

Probably old news (5 days ago) ..but Hwy 504 is closed due to a rock slide at mile 49. Not sure if that is before or after Coldwater Lake. Also, no idea of how long it will take to repair the road...

    Humminbird 120 question

Yeah.. Scotty makes all kinds of mounts.. the transducer is just lifted up to net the fish. Amazon (or Google).. has everything you need. Guess I missed something.. thought you were looking for ways to mount the Garmin Stryker on your boat.

    Humminbird 120 question

Sorry to hear about your Hummingbird failing, Pat. Here's how I mounted my Garmin Striker on a Scotty base... should be easy to mount on your boat, easy to remove. They help you catch big fish too...

    Silk lines...

I fish silk lines (and bamboo rods) ..as often as I can. Most are Phoenix, and I grease them (lightly) with red Mucilin floatant, but I'm lucky to have the lines float for much more than an hour on the lakes. I would have thought they would stay on top much longer. Has anyone using silk had...

    Humminbird 120 question

I solved the battery issue on my 140 by getting a new power cord, and hooking it up to a small LiPo battery. You'll need a step down converter for 12 to 9 volts... works good, last a long time. Having said that... I also have a Garmin Stryker 4 that is a much better finder! Now if I could just...

    The Spring Break expedition

I took my grandson Austin, and daughter on what has become an annual Spring Break fishing trip to some private lakes in Oregon. We had to work for the fish in between rain squalls and wind, but my of my, did we catch some nice, big, fat rainbows! Austin caught the biggest (20”+) … on a 3/4wt...

    Fly Rods On Commercial Flights?

We do trips on Alaska Airlines to the Baja, a couple times a year. There is no problem taking your rods and reels down as a carryon, but we've had to check the rods and reels coming back. Apparently they are considered to be a dangerous items down there. (its a Mexican thing)

    A true quality fishery 3/22 - 3/23/2023

I love that lake...! Hooked one fish I never slowed down... into the backing when it came undone. (I still grieve) I'm a little curious on why they dumped 6,400 fingerling in there last year. I'll ask Mike next time we talk.

    Rio fly line

Sorry to hear you broke a line, Buzzy! I only have a couple RIO lines and checked them over (and stretched) this morning... still good to go. Between fresh and saltwater lines, I have 15 to 20, some long past the shelf life, and only recall a SA, full sink line with cracks. Good time to start...

    The East side..

Thanks.. we waited two weeks after the opening, and some of the lakes were still iced over. But sure worth the wait! The largest measured 24”, and over 5 pounds. Mike (WDFW).. thought it might be one of the triploids Troutlodge put in the lake in 2021.. (no, I didn’t fish Lenice)

    The East side..

I managed to get in a few days on some of my favorite East Side lakes, and the fishing was excellent! We didn't catch a lot, but it doesn't take many 20"+ rainbows to make my day! A proper bend on a 4/5 bamboo rod!
