    Small Lake Boats

Now that I am a master stillwater fisherman, having gone a total of 7 times, I am thinking it might be time to invest in a better watercraft. I’d like something that gets me out of the water and is easier to set up than waders and a float tube. I would like something that can take at least 2...

    Random Questions

Something I should have mentioned is that I’ve been using a fish finder and fishing a local urban lake. Most of the fish have been out deep, where the lake is about 35ft deep. They mostly seem to hang around 20-15ft, but many seem to be as low as 25ft or as high as 10ft. I have some further...

    Random Questions

Hello. I have random questions. If I’m out in the middle of a lake, with no obvious features, should I be casting in any particular direction? Ie. with, perpendicular to or against the current? I have been fishing an indicator rig, with a chironomid and a balanced leech. I have never hooked a...

    How important is thread color?

AFAIK, only juvenile fish see UV. Fluorescence (ie. UV being reflected back in the visible spectrum) is a separate issue from seeing UV itself. I’m sure thread color matters, when it is a major part of the pattern. For most flies, I don’t think color matters at all. I tie the vast majority of...

    Wet Flippering

I want to use my float tube, without waders. I’m looking for some kind of footwear that will keep debris out, provide support for fins and are soft enough to drive my car with them on. Any suggestions? Do diving booties work?

    FOUND: Tenkara Rod

Definitely redneck. Maybe meth? I’m not an expert in these things. Covered in tattoos. Demeanor was as rough as his appearance. They own land on the river, so whatever they’re up to doesn’t pay bad.

    FOUND: Tenkara Rod

Here is a fun story, just prior to the discovery of this garden stake. We turned up to a really nice looking spot. Then a cattle dog appeared, barking its tits off. Then a Weimaraner. Then a Doberman. Then the cracked out looking landowner. Crackhead: “You won’t have any luck here” Me: “OK”...

    The Mountain Bike Thread

I don’t know about USA, but in Australia all helmets are required to have the same safety features. The difference between a $20 helmet and $200 helmet is comfort and other non-safety features. I would be surprised if it was any different here. Bell is a reputable brand, too. You should be fine...

    Sling Packs & Nets

I already found and purchased one of the discontinued ones. Thanks for the offer though!

    Sling Packs & Nets

I went to a fly shop and tried out various packs. The slings that have a net sleeve are by far the most comfortable to wear. However, you cannot get the net back in without spinning the bag around first. I’m like totally ridic good at fly fishing and just non stop catching fish and babes, so...

    Sling Packs & Nets

Has anyone made a sling pack that isn’t total dog shit for using a net, yet? I would like to start taking my camera with me. Time to hang up my vest. I’m leaning towards the Fishpond chest pack, but I’m willing to give a sling pack another try.

What Are You Fishing For This Weekend?

I’m potty training my toddler, so I guess I’m fishing for turds.

Looking for mid-range (price)10wt reel recommendation

They are all sealed. Even the exposed bearings on the original series are (technically) sealed. Most importantly, unlike Sage, Lamson and so on, the seal is not provided by the same O-ring that keeps the spool connected to the frame.

    Nymph boxes

I use the regular Tacky boxes. I have a 2x, but hate it for two reasons: 1. I can’t see what’s inside (or the state of what’s inside). 2. Larger nymphs rub against the other side and dislodge them or just generally mess them up. If I still have it, you can have it if you want. I’m in the...

Non-Fly Slip Bobbers & Spin Reels

I have an ultra light rod that I’ve successfully used for river bobbering, with heavy nymphs and streamers. I’d like to take it to the lake now. How does one use a slip bobber, with a spinning reel, at depths of 15ft or more? Can the little rubber bobber stops pass through the eyes of the rod...
