They actually hold up very well. A recent Nov-Dec trip to the Tampa region I caught dozens of speckled trout using flies with the homemade barred marabou and they still looked decent after a lot of fish.

That works well if tying the marabou in by clumps but doesn’t work to well if you are winding the marabou around the hook soft-hackle streamer style. Good technique though.
