    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

And now back to our regular programming..... A guy is driving around the back woods and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale". He knocks on the door and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and...

    What are you listening to?

Seems like every month, another performer from my childhood passes away. One of the first records I remember hearing was "Puff the Magic Dragon". This one's geared a little more to adult tastes. RIP, Peter Yarrow.

    What are you listening to?

A couple of tunes (one cover, one original) from an obscure 1960s garage rock band: Oh yeah, two of the band members went on to do much bigger and better things, though I really like the simplicity of these early gems.........

    What are you listening to?

RIP, Phil. While I'm not really a Deadhead, I do enjoy a lot of their stuff from the early years. Listen to Phil's bass on this jam:

    They DARED TO REMOVE ME

Explain Travers? Travers is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, (think “Turducken”, jumbo-sized). He is what all of us secretly wish we were, but dare not to express. There’s a little part of Travers in each of us, and a little bit of each of us in Travers. I’m out of cliches here...

    Beer and reels

Instead of a beer-themed reel, how about a reel-themed beer (or brewery)? This place (on the Jersey shore) brews a lot of the "milkshake"-style IPAs, which I won't drink, but this looks good: Owner/brewer is a big-game angler, and the brewery décor reflects that.

Trip Planning for Summer England / Scotland / Ireland in July

For a while, I was visiting Ireland for work a couple times a year. On one trip, I was going to be there over a weekend in June/July and made arrangements to fish near Dublin. Back about 20 years ago, Ireland was promoting its fly fishing opportunities and there were always a couple of booths...

    What Are You Eating?

We're currently getting our first accumulating snow this season, so it seemed like a good time to pull some wild raspberries (gathered from our backyard) out of the freezer: Turned them into a cobbler, which is a good way to enjoy a little taste of summer in the dead of winter:

    over-rated vs. under-rated

Reading this, it struck me that "Pineapple on Pizza" makes a better band name than culinary idea.....;)

    NFR Humor (No political jokes)

Since today is the first full day of winter..... Two bass fisherman from down South had been hearing for years how much fun ice fishing was, and decided to head up to Michigan to give it a try. They stopped at a bait shop near a large frozen lake and went in to get some supplies. The clerk was...

    Interesting watery find!

This hypothesis may have little support, but new evidence suggests that the "missing link" may still live among us: ;)

NFR Any actual good online "black friday" or "cyber monday" deals you found?

Don't know the area at all, except that they get A LOT of snow, even by northeast US standards, due to the lake effect. I'd imagine it would be an even more dramatic difference for someone coming from the wet side of WA.

    The Pacific Shore

I really enjoy seeing the pics that are posted in the Puget Sound thread, and thought it would make sense to have a similar thread showcasing the big blue lake that's just a little further west. My wife and I spent a week on the Oregon coast in September (with a brief foray into WA), so I'll...

NFR Let's talk about "fat wood".

There was a man in Anacortes named Jim Whose gal told him his wood was too slim. He discovered fatwood And lit her fire so good That she now thinks he’s bursting with vim. Sorry, just couldn't stop myself...... ;)

NFR So We Got These Tasmanian Tigers Comin In

These science guys are talkin bout bringing these critters back from extinction. Some folks are scared, but I say BRING ‘EM ON! Tigers??? They look like DOGS, and I’m gonna show them who’s the TOP DOG around here. I’ll make’em remember why they were EXTINCTED in the first place!!!! Apologies to...

    Best moment in rock history?

Your memory is a little off - it actually happened at the Newport (RI) Folk Festival in 1965 (here's the first song of his "electric" set): I was going to post this before I saw your post, as I grew up in RI and it was always fascinating to me that there was such a negative response to what...

    What are you listening to?

When I saw yesterday that Gary Wright (of "Dream Weaver" fame) passed away, it prompted me to go and watch this, which I had stumbled on a few years ago. Though I was never a big fan of synthesizer-based music, this song rocks - catchy riff, and the back-up singers banging on cowbell and...
