    Wear your life vest

I wouldn’t use an inflatable life vest in moving water personally, but to answer your question it would be hard to swim aggressively I would think. It was not a problem in the lake though. I still had my flippers on to aid in swimming.

    Wear your life vest

I initially had my sunglasses but must have dropped them when I first scrambled around in the water. I have a Mustang brand inflatable, it’s a few years old now. I’m going to buy a rearm kit, about $35. I remember being in the water thinking that my vest didn’t inflate, and then it did...

    Wear your life vest

Whenever I read a story about someone falling out of their float tube, or even "turtling" it, I wonder about how that can possibly happen. Well, Rich and I were out bass fishing this past week at a hike in lake one evening. It was nearing dark, the sun had set and so I had taken my sunglasses...

    Rod Repair

I would do both, splint on the inside and the outside. You need to have a lot of spare parts (broken rods around. It will definitely stiffen the rod's action, and speaking from experience, it is very difficult to keep the rod perfectly straight so watch as you are bonding it. I have done it...

    Bread Thread

Does anyone here routinely score or re-score their loaves 5 minutes into baking? I tried that this morning and it seemed to improve the oven spring.

    Float Tube Air Pressure

If you read about air pressure gauges on a rafting site, most boaters don’t use them. They just go by firmness, some deflection with thumb or heel of the hand. An under inflated boat would have more drag in the water I would think, an overinflated boat would be at risk of rupturing if it got...

    Float Tube Air Pressure

I used to have a pressure gauge back when I had a real raft. Now I just go to firm pressure, but depends on what I'm doing. If I am starting in the cool morning and I'm hiking in and expecting a warm afternoon, I may be a little light on the pumping, whereas if I'm at the launch at the heat of...

How in the world did this boat/trailer disaster happen?

Gotta be photoshopped, I'm looking at the shadow of the truck, seems like sun is straight up but boat is reflecting off the bottom, maybe from the truck. And hard to believe a boat of that weight did no damage that we can see from this angle. I don't own any big boats, but wouldn't the weight...

    Float Tube Rearview Mirror?

Wouldn't work, would just be a crappy view.

    Airport parking question

If you do the parking, get reservations early. My wife and I flew out of Seattle in April for the first time in a long time. We got to the hotel (we live the eastern Washington) and started looking for parking but all the lots were full with reservations. Luckily our hotel had parking though...

    Leech Lake Newb

The problem with the weekends up there is that the parking lot is used by hikers on the PCT as well. If you trailer a boat up there, there is only a few places that will fit your truck and trailer without it blocking traffic anyway.

    Leech Lake Newb

If you like the bobber stuff, a small black mini leech of some sort, like a BMW, works well. My experience fishing there is that there can be long periods of not much catching, followed by periods of lots of catching. And the fish do look up a lot. Also know that the lake is not deep at...

FS 10' Koffler whitewater pram with trailer

I have this same boat in the 12 foot size and I can vouch for how stable it is. A great fishing platform!

    Leech Lake Newb

They are the worst in the parking lot, while you string your fly rods. If I bring my pram, I will get the boat in the water, pull away from shore a bit and string my rods out there. They can be real bad in June, not so terrible by August.

    Deals at online Retailers

I expect that shipping costs are figured into the price when a company offers free shipping and I don't want to pay twice for it. When I go to Walmart to buy something, I don't expect them to add shipping costs at the register. I have built on blanks from both Batson and North Fork, I'll deal...

    SOLD Steffen Bros 8' 5/6

Yeah, I was thinking of using it for bass poppers, might want a heavier line for that.

What’s your go to, soft hackle wet fly?

No doubt, an Olive Willy. I have caught the multiple types of trouts, as well as multiple types of bass and panfish by varying the size.

    SOLD Steffen Bros 8' 5/6

I have this rod, bought the blank and and built it myself. What line do you use with it? I have been using a Rio Gold 5 wt, using it as my indicator rod. I love this rod. Just wondering how it works with a 6 wt line.

    Bread Thread

I’m beginning to feel like I have at least some clue what I’m doing. Decided to try Trevor Wilson’s Champlain Sourdough. Premixed yesterday, added the starter this morning. It uses a smaller amount of starter, about 11%, and is supposed to take about 6 hours bulk and another 2-4 hours proof...
