    Non-Fly SRC & Coho Lures

As a kid I slayed SRC trolling a triple teaser with a small swivel and splitshot 2 or 3 feet up the line. Tying a rubber band above the swivel helped to catch and stray seaweed and keep it from fouling the lure. Silver with the fluorescent orange head was a killer color combo for the triple...

    Old Steelhead Reports

Great pics all. I missed out on most of it but got to experience some of the 90's and on. My fishing partner/mentor/cousin and I mostly focused on some of the smaller, more obscure rivers on the hatchery plant list. Tribs or portions of larger rivers outside of the hatchery zones. We...

    Non-Fly Bead size/color...

I appreciate this and agree with lots of it. That said I don't know that I've caught on anything other than a pink 10 or 12 mm bead. Bought a pack of trout beads years ago and never felt the need to switch since it was so effective lol. I've tried the soft beads now a few times and they work...

    Non-Fly Dirtbag Saltwater Salmon Gear

Currently running a gloomis salmon series mooching rod in 8'6" and shimano tekota a 400 with line counter. In the past I've used old penn 109 reels. I use 8'6'' rods because I primarily fish alone from a smaller boat. Netting fish is easier for me with the shorter rod.

    Non-Fly 2024 Summer Salmon

I was busy the entire summer with a new baby so can't comment on fishing this summer other than it seemed it was very good. What I can say to support your observations is that these two were both deep, caught close to the deck in about 180'. The top fish was packed with those small pink and...

WDFW to end two early winter hatchery steelhead (chambers creek) programs

Reading between the lines of the news release it seems that these closures are being pushed by NMFS. I base this on the fact that the closure are happening end of 2024 regardless of other plans, and that WDFW is "developing" a plan for the Snoqualmie and still in talks about what to do on the...

Hatchery fish - keep or release?

I generally keep hatchery fish, though sometimes I will release Western WA fall caught summer steelhead. I have kept some in the past and never particularly enjoyed the food quality when caught late in the season.

Cool looking line. I always used Maxima Crystal Ivory which is easier to track than ultragreen.

    Methow Steelhead Opening 2024

Evan is probably right on the crowding, especially given the limited open area which I didn't appreciate when reading the news release yesterday. I won't fish it. Never have. I'm still happy its opening as it beats the alternative. Washington needs all the positive steelhead news it can get.

    Puget Sound

Good on you for learning new techniques and becoming a more well-rounded angler. I once caught a SRC that had a salmon smolt hanging out of its mouth with its head nearly bitten off. Clean cut like the tail on the one you found. I think our local salmonids are more savage than they get credit...

    Bad outing for FlyFish Dan

SS was great. My memory is that @Billy first couple weeks on the old forum were pretty fun as well.
