    SFR Hobbit Houses

Not structure related but weird… There is a place on the coast that I used to mushroom hunt frequently until the land was bought up and became private property. One day I was in there mushroom hunting and as one does, I was scanning the ground, looking more down than up. I was slowly moving...

Mushroom and other wild edible foraging

Spent a day and a half in the woods on my weekend. Haven’t been able to take many days off for fun stuff this year so it was a treat getting out. Timing on the kings is tricky at this spot. Glad they cooperated. Found few nice Blue Chanterelle clusters and several babies just getting...

    What Are You Eating?

What kind of hot dogs does @Brute eat? 😁

Strange, weird or odd or whatever beach finds thread….

Fort Bragg? My girlfriend and I went there at night with black lights and found some old uranium beach glass.

    What Are You Eating?

The sausage on that looks legit. Too many places get the sausage wrong. It needs to be nice and chunky. None of this sausage crumble nonsense. I want globs. And fennel, lots of fennel.

    Puget Sound

Nice work @KFCDAVE ! That one is giving me migratory fish vibes. How’s the flesh color on that fish?

    What Are You Eating?

Oh yeah, I bought a blow torch just for that reason a few years ago. Slice, lightly torch, lemon, soy sauce and wasabi. BOMB!

    What Are You Eating?

Do you… Membrane on or off? Skin on or off? I threw mine in the freezer until I have more time to smoke them. Thanks!

    Pepper potpourri

Wash, dry, freeze. Frozen peppers come back to life great. You can roast after they’ve been frozen too.

Nice haul! Whites are superior to golden chanterelles IMO. So fragrant.

    Westport Tuna, 11 September 2025

The flying tuna was from a bait stop that we parked on. Lots of surface feeding activity that lasted for quite a while. This probably would have been a great time to bust out the floating line and poppers. I’m not set up for that yet but I will be next year just in case.

    Westport Tuna, 11 September 2025

Thanks for the report Steve! What an epic day. I didn’t take a lot of pictures as it seemed we never went more than 10 minutes between fish.

The "Caught a fish on my first cast!" lucky day thread...

This was years ago and not fly fishing. My friend and I had a weekly ritual of meeting at a certain beach and fishing for coho on Friday evenings. On one of these days she and another friend had been fishing all day without any luck. I got off of work and rushed to catch the ferry to meet them...

    Backyard Wildlife

Coyotes love eating berries, fruit, rose hips etc. My guess is coyote but I’m sure a picture will help narrow it down.

    What Are You Eating?

It helps when I have a Vietnamese focused grocery store two blocks from my house. The squid scene on the local piers is dominated by the SE Asian community and I’ve always been curious what dishes they prepare with squid. I’m sure I’m doing it all wrong but it tasted pretty legit 😁

    What Are You Eating?

Vietnamese style grilled squid, coho belly and collars. Jasmine rice, nuoc cham and a bunch of herbs. I might have to grill squid more often vs pan frying. Was super good. Followed this recipe for the marinade and it’s definitely something I’ll make again...

How many rods have you broken?

    3. One while bushwhacking and 2 that got clouserized. Stiff wind, dumbbell eyes and shitty casting is a recipe for disaster. Kind of surprised I haven’t broken more.

    2025 Tuna and Exotics

I thought I remembered this topic coming up a few years ago and the conclusion was that using fore grips to apply a lot of pressure could damage the rod. I might not be remembering correctly though.

    2025 Tuna and Exotics

Thanks. Didn’t know about the background of the that company’s rods. I wonder if the longer fighting but would lead to increased arm fatigue while holding the rod on the troll, at least from the standing position.
